Silverynightsky - I've heard gothic metal and thrash metal a few times and i actually enjoyed it.

considering this particular topic is on black metal it would be worthwhile to mention a few black metal bands as well.

sorry for overcompensating. I get a little edgy if anyone questions me is all.

Thanks for the help.

Black isn't my expertise. Could probably give you a few bands I've heard of though: Enslaved, Emperor, Immortal, Summoning, Burzum...

and of course, the over rated Dimmu Borgir if you want to start off.

Anyone into melodic death/power here? or are you all corpse paint people?

Haven't heard much demons and wizards, the rest is pretty good yes.
There's also Kamelot, Nevermore, Rhapsody... good stuff

I mostly listen to melodic death, progressive and power (and all them subgenres that link them together -.-). Can't stand doom... (zzz, but ) an occasional black (but it wouldn't be sought after myself. someone would have given it to me - well apart from hellspawn) no grindcore, no brutal death, has to be something melodic =)

and yeah that pretty much covers it.

I want to expand my metal tastes.

currently I just listen to regular metal - radio stuff. lame, but it's okay.

what would you suggest as a good intro to black or doom metal?

what bands suck and what are the one's to watch out for?

just note Metallica isnt nu-metal ;)

Anyway I reckon a good intro doom metal band is My dying Bride. One of ym fav bands ever. A few different styles as they changed producers/members etc. If you like I could send you some songs :)

How could you list power metal bands without naming LostHorizon?

I'm not as big a fan of black metal as I am of death and progressive but I do enjoy a few bands: Emperor, Drudkh, Anaal Nathrakh, Borknagar, Satyricon.......don't like too much else tbh.

I'm there

I do like some black metal, Xasthur, Darkthrone, Diabolical Masquerade, Enslaved, Epheles, Leviathan, Nachtmystium, Taake, Satyricon, Ulver and then the other things that some people don't consider black such as Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Carpathian Forest
