we have this essay assignment to do, and we havent done much theory, infact we havent done any theory at all this year. soo we havent got much information on anything really. ive searched the net, and have found information to use, but dont know exactly what im looking for because the question is quite general.
the essay question is:

Contemporary artworks often challenge their audience through their use of technology and overt political statements" (answer this from the post modern frame)

well all you have to do is discuss it. its a fairly easy question if you think about it.
all you need to do is follow this paragraph structure (post modern frame comes into how you answer the question)

1. a method of challenging audience. (what they use etc.)
2. an artist or two who challenges the audience in this way. (marcel duchamp would be a good artist or wim delvoye.)--analyse their work and the political or social statement they are trying to make.
3. analyse how that artist or artwork challeneged the audience at the time.
4. link all this back to the question. eg...thus it can be concluded that (insert artist/s name here) challenges his/her audience through the use of technology and/or political statements.

and reword that last sentence every time you have a new artist or paragraph.

if you follow that structure and go into some good detail in analysing artworks it shouldnt be too hard for you to pull out an essay of about 1500 words.

jenny holzer is a good artist you can use (portrays political statements through technology)...actually almost anyone from the anti-aesthetes movement...even robert longo could work (comments on American politics and society through digital photos and all)

A good artist to do for that assignment is Orlan - she pretty much covers all aspects of that question i think. Hope that helps

If the question relates to technology i would use Stelarc, Tony Oursler or Patricia Piccinini as they all use technology and how it has influenced society and all three work in the Post Modern frame.

Stelarc believes that technology is a good influence
Oursler believes it is a negative influence and his famous artwork "Judy" shocked the audience so look that up
It probably doesn't help lol :uhhuh:
