Capital punishment

Jaded Cynic said:
Ok, with regards to capital punishment, which I think was the topic before the thing about the UN was started, I don't think it should be used.
Why?
(1) Because it doesn't really punish the person does it. They commit truly horrible crimes and then they just die. Thats it, nothing really happens to them because they dont really get to think about what they have done. I mean yes they die, but why send them off into a state of nothingness instead of punishing them for years or the rest od their natural life for what they have done? Yes, it costs money but for those types of people isnt it worth it?
(2) If the person has been convicted but is really innocent, then that person at least has a chance that he would get out at some stage with DNA testing etc etc but if he has been put to death, then all that will happen is an apology and maybe someones head would roll.

...off topic
About the UN thing, I wish they had enough power and dammit they should. Why? Because it beats the US running around invading countries. At the moment, it is rather obsolete and I think it may be past its used by date ala League of Nations. So what I think, is that the 3rd one of these should pop up and every country, the US and Australia included should give it the power it deserves. There has to be some global organisation with the power to stop the USA....But that all may just be wishful thinking.
Jaded Cynic, you raise some very interesting and debatable points.
1) Indeed you are very true to say that they commit horrible crimes. That is why theyt are first sentenced to life imprisonment. But pretty much their punishment is death. And for those truly horrible people (like the Bali bombing stooges, and Martin Bryant, Ivan Milat), it is all good to say that life improsonment is a very tough punishment and that death is the ewasy way out. but think of the final outcome. They are going to die in prison. Should society give a crap about them, since because they are commiting such horrendous acts against hummanity, they can be considered outcasted? Shouldn't we just knock these people off, save money, (wherin the best thing to do is to fund say somepeople in Africa with all this money). You say that spending money on these type of people is really worth it. Due you rekon so? Wouldn't it be better spent on giving someone life rather than prolonging a dead man walking?

2) I beleive you are absolutely correct here about false evidence. But this is what i am proosing. Let capital punishment onlyoccur for those cases [roven abslolutely ture, such as Ivan milat, and martin Bryant.]. But u see i am not a law student and do not intend to become one  , therefore my arguements will only serve a subjective purpose rather than an objective purpose.
