Think of what you'll end up doing if you fail...

Fear and caffeine are the two prime human motivators

I found this poem a key for motivation. Remember guys, do it for yourself, there is nothing better than achieving something that you have worked hard for.

The Guy in the Glass*

by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934*

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.
For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the guy staring back from the glass.
He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he's with you clear up to the end,
And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum,
And think you're a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you're only a bum
If you can't look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you've cheated the guy in the glass.

Isn't that called 'The mirror'?

Pick one person in each of your subjects who u think wow, they're so smart, but they still seem fairly normal (don't go 4 the crazy smart kids who get 100% in every test and hav no life..) and be determined 2 do everything u can 2 beat them.. then u will be that person ppl admire (or are jealous of) and hopefully will be able 2 look back and be happy with what u've acheived..
that really puts me down in ext maths ash! :( :( :(
like everyone is doing good except me :( :( :(
well it could be ok for other subjects though

and dont ask me lol im king of procrastination :D :D :D

i am in need of some ways to stay focused and motivated with school work....
i have recently heard of sticky ur desired uai around the house to reminde you of your goals...i am about to go and stick some post-its all over the house!

any other suggestions??
Above all else, relax! And when I say relax, I don't mean take ten deep breaths and recite solacing mantras in your head - I mean relax your expectations, your system of priority allocation and, indeed, your whole life.

This does not mean you should not have goals and ambitions. What it means is that you should know your own limits, mentally, physically and emotionally, and that you should set your goals accordingly. There's no sense in doing youself over in the head striving for something beyond your reach. I hear people speaking of that 99+ UAI as if it is a condition, or a necessity, for happiness and success, when in fact it is a luxury reserved for those with the natural ability to attain it. I'm not saying that you, or any other people, aren't smart enough to achieve a result of this stature, but am simply illustrating that in placing unrealistic expectations on yourself and your own ability, you could be setting yourself up for disappointment.

This may seem hard to believe, but, the lower your expectations are, the less disappointed you stand to become and, therefore, the happier you will end up being.

On keeping your focus and drive, I've, personally, always tried to have as much fun as possible with the HSC. Even looking on the bright side when times get really rough can, I've found, help you to get the most out of your studies and actually lead to your enjoy yourself, leaving you itching for more. I actually laughed about three times during my last English exam. Having fun on a recurrent basis, though, isn't as easy as I'm making out.

The key to enjoying yourself is telling yourself that whatever the outcome of any activity you undertake, you deserve only to be happy about it, provided you delivered at your maximum capacity during the task. This is why I stress not setting unrealistic goals. If an 80% is the best that you can produce, then it is the best result possible and you deserve to feel happiest about it.

I'm sure you've heard this before, but remember that the HSC isn't everything. Whatever fruits come of your labour, you should, under no circumstances, believe that your life is over. How successful you will be and how much you will enjoy life come not from what your marks are, but how you take those marks.
