There are two common ways that people motivate themselves. You may be the type that thrives when praised and encouraged. Great, if that helps you hit those constant high marks.

Or... competition. The desire to prove someone one, to get the academic upper hand over a snotty b*tch in your class. Just picturing their smug face and gloating friends when they top your class can be a powerful incentive to study. Hey, whatever works.
My guess is, u belong to the second type! competetion!

so is that how u came to top all ur subjects lol... I guess u showed her!!!

My advice:
Enjoy this year- its one of your best years, alot of you will turn 18 etc
U can still do well
I know some people who "locked themselves in their room" this year
*looks around at someone in this thread :p*
Is it really worth it at the end to get the best UAI and not have any friends at the end?
NO!
and yes, i saw some guy on this site post in a thread, "i have no female friends now"... after the HSC

so in conclusion, class of 06, enjoy it and DON'T become like them
:uhhuh:

lol...I dont know if that someone is me, but neways, if u r refering to me, that wasnt the case, by annyways, u see the thing is, everyone has it differently, for example in my case, my physics teacher taught half the physics course in approx 20 periods, and taught the other half in well, 3 terms!!!

I was very confident with the first half of the course, but the second half....lol... i was suffering, i couldnt get a tutor, and I had limited time to get everything through my thick head, I mean this is physics, not english!... this could merely be the case with someone, and thus, if they hadnt locked themselves in their room, they would be extremely disadvantaged and thus would get really bad results (I mean if u now half the course, tha max u'll get is 50%)

oh, and if u r refring to me, lol... why do i get the feeling u r?...

I actualy juggled sport and work for half of yr 12, so that doesnt realy sound like someone whos locked in their room all day!

anyways, if u r refering to me, i'll get back to u on the freinds part...lol!!!

I did it subtly so that ppl wouldn't know it was u
but, with your location during the HSC being "Locked in my room studying-9 months and counting..." adding on to the months as we went along, i guess others would've seen :p
or was i just too observant
lol u asked if i was referring 2 u 4 times in ur above post :p

Lol, nah, bit of both. I think I responded better to the latter type though. But it was just a hybrid of one intensely irritating person and a few smug people. :)

Yeah - just to second what goan_crazy said: don't be one of those people who put life on hold for 'after the HSC'. You have enough time to do everything, as long as you manage your time well! And considering most people who really care about the HSC, having such post-HSC plans is a bit stupid, considering it's an oft stated view that uni can be like having a HSC twice a year.

Aw, thanks. But really, there are heaps of people like me. It's not like my school is especially brilliant. And I guess I did have a good time, but looking back, I wish I got out more.

Learn from us, c/o 2006! You can have your cake and eat it too! You have more than enough time to get all the work done, as long as you're consistent. That means plenty of time for sport, work and socialising too. Everything in moderation, yeah?

... and everyone tell you to make notes and learn things EARLY. Most of us heard that a thousand times and kidded ourselves that we'd do it... when I bet a large number didn't! Seriously, stick with it and be consistent. Just do a tiny bit - even if it's only 10 minutes per subject per night, that will help you so much, you won't believe it. Just as long as you start early. NOW! :)

its been acknowledged by even teachers that cramming is an effective way of studying, and truthfully, most students cram. but hey, thats how ure brain effectively remembers all the stuff...hehehe even for me, a few days before my hsc i started cramming, coz thats the only way i can study =)
lol i agree with what Anthrax said....i actually started studying 3 weeks before the hsc...

Cramming? I'm used to learning new stuff 5 minutes before the exam starts.

heh. calm down guys. you're all going to regret beating yourselves about the head over something like this in a years time.
this place is starting to make me nervous that i'm not nervous enough.
ironic eh?
anyway absolute worst case scenario = you stuff up a few subjects, change to pathways at the end of they year and redo the subjects that you stuffed again and rip those because of your extra skills. i know a few guys who ended up doing that, they seem fine. its just another year of 72 of your life.

Even though it is perhaps another year of your life if your doing pathways. I couldnt really imagine myself doing that. I would prefer doing well in the hsc on my first attempt and then moving on and doing something else.

dont take it too seriously. Its not a means to an end, as everyone may think it is
Lots of people dont know how many backdoors there are in uni and stress so much getting UAI

Take Macq for example,

u wanna do law and actuarial studies for 6 years? (insane people only)

If u r really really devoted u can get into arts and do neccesary prerequisites and transfer

U wanna do law? Just get a GPA of half credit and half distinction with 90+ UAI and u have a good chance for transfer (From what i heard)

Do what u like and continue at Uni, dont do something coz ur family is pressuring u to do, if u r passionate u will do well and maximise your university experience.

Balance out your enjoyment in high school with what your future plans are.
