Hi ya all,

A little info for students who are very keenly interested in applying for medicine at UWS.

* Need a UAI of at least 92
* Need a good UMAT score
* Need a good interview progress

* Course Available from 2007
* Available at the Campbelltown and the new Liverpool Campus
* Only 80 places are available each year

At current, there is only 3 universities in NSW that offer an undergraduate medicine course.

to add on to this -

MAKE SURE YOU DO THE UMAT TEST!!!!

soooo many people , whether its coz of their own fault or being misinformed by their school etc miss out on med because they haven't applied via UMAT.

This is absolutely 100% necessary.

if you're not sure if u wanna do med but there's a chance you might, its suggested that you do UMAT anyway because at least if you decide to do med in the end you won't miss out for that reason.

There's a lot of info out there on it and also workshops on techniques for UMAT through private colleges etc so make sure you get as much info as you can:)

and UAI as theone123 said of at least 92 - but keep in mind that med is pretty high at unis with existing courses so you'll be competing with people possibly who just missed out on higher UAI entry courses so although UAI isn't all that counts cozyou gotta do well in UMAT, its very important so keep that in mind:)

This should be made a sticky : mods

Also what is the liverpool campus?

This next, question i dont really care about, but others maybe wondering this:

What is UMAT, how do you apply for UMAT, does it cost $$$, how much, etc?

I thought that that was the 3rd uni referred to. Well it's not really undergrad med, but a somewhat "glorified" version of graduate medicine - the main difference is that you get selected for grad med as an undergrad.

 achieving this is easy but getting in is a different story.
remember though it says that you need a uai of AT LEAST 92, there are going to be candidates with uai of 99+ applying
basically this isnt going to be necesarily an easier way to get into med.

yeah i already said a similar thing..

but at the same time, it will be competitive but still a lot of stigma against going to uws for no good reason at all.... so might work in people's favour:)

there will be stigma, but as for the diehards, i think they rather get into medicine anywhere rather than med science then transfer, as not many have an opportunity to transfer to med from med sci.

Medicine is a double degree (Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery), to combine it with law would make it a triple degree taking at least 8 years to complete full time. And then you would need to do prac for them both.

God, you'd be on the pension, or simply have gone insane, before you had any time to practice either!

Please for the love of god tell me people won't be able to transfer into this course under the "garanteed internal transfer scheme".

I don't want some dodgy doctor with a credit average operating on me.

That's a good one!

But yeah, the below is true I spose...

I'm doing law at uws and you don't need as high to get in there for law as many other unis and yet I'm doing pretty okay at law and I love it, so would of sucked if I couldn't of done it coz uws had a really high uai.. coz really HSC doesn't tell u much..

Still, credit average would be a bit low for medicine...so yeah, dist. average is okay. And I spose once u get in there, into med, still gotta maintain ur grade.

just coz u got a credit avge doesn't mean ur gonna be a bad doctor...

besides, once you transfer in you gotta work just as hard as anyone else who got in the course initially to keep up good marks...

that said i think the unsw system is good tho - u need a D avge in medsc to get into med... not coz it means ur gonna be a 'better' doctor, but coz it encourages ppl to work hard
i mean...its the same with everything i guess... just coz u dont do fantastic at uni doesnt mean you won't be awesome in practice. especially if ur really good with people and stuff :)
