What are your favourite aussie movies and why?

1. Gettin Square - David Wenham. Nuff Said.
2. Swimming Upstream - Geoffrey Rush is awesome, the story is excellent, and the dialogue is perfect.
3. Dirty Deeds - Really classy movie, camera work is awesome and the plot is brilliant.
4. The Bank - Very clever plot with some great performances...notably by Anthony Lapaglia.
5. Beyond the Deluge - Yeah, I know, it was a TV mini-series, but still, it was amazing. David Wenham was awesome as always, as was Hugo Weaving as the best arsehole I've ever seen "If you're gonna spit out bullshit like that, at least do it with your clothes off."

So, yes, so, uh huh, yup, yeeaah...post yours.

I disagree, I think the majority of Australian movies are excellent, it's just people who watch them can't click with it because we are all Americanised so much that if the movie doesn't have a couple of "ditto's" or "yes ma'am's" then they don't see it as a 'proper' film.

The really poor Aussie movies? How about 'Undead'? Anybody seen this? It was complete rubbish with zombies, the hero dude killed a zombie by shaking up a can of coke, sticking a pen in it and throwing it at a zombie...riiiiiiigggghhhhht.

All in all, I think whilst the Australian movie business is slowly falling to pieces, we still have some of the best film-makers in the world.

taxman: the vast majority of australian films are crap, because they follow almost the exact same storyline, i.e. the aussie battler who has to fight the big corporation.
i hate most american movies that come out also. i would love it if we went back to the way movies used to be, i.e. in the godfather, scarface, hitchcock days, when movies actually contained storylines. most movies now are just pure action, or pure babes in hot outfits.
the only movie from the last 5yrs that i think will be remembered in 30yrs will be The Lord of the Rings.
