I was thinking about maybe doing mine on "Ancient Egypt and removal of individuals from history", referring to Akhenaten's Atenism, with the priesthoods.

My topic is: "Assess the differing views of historians regarding the Gracchi brothers and their personalities".

Its the gist of the question. I cant remember it word for word.

I'm doing changing interpretations of homosexuality in the Hellenistic World, with focus on ancient (Plato etc), modern (Kenneth Dover) and postmodern-interdisciplinary (David Halperin, Cultural studies stuff) interpretations. Also accounting for the huge gaps in study in between.

And I am meant to be writing my proposal now and am procrastinating. Grr.
Trust me, you should do your proposal now... or it will never get done!

I've managed to go through a million topics.
I actually originally considered doing the diamond wars (which, sadly, I will admit was because I really enjoyed the film with Leonardo di Caprio), but, decided against it coz I got too frustrated.
At the moment, I'm tossing up between German Lesenborne homes during World War II and the interpretations of Che Guevara and his life (as a freedom fighter or murderer). I'm probably leaning towards Guevara more as access to sources are of a wider variety, however, I'm more interested in the Lesenborne home issue.
I doubt seriously whether I'll ever be able to definitively say what my topic is! Lol.

 Which years?
Tiberius himself is a historical personality. and the historical period Political Revolution in Rome 133 - 78 BC includes the gracchi

so there is bound to be questions on the gracchi in past papers.

where are all the ancient history peoples? seems like you are all modern-ers

Agreed. Ancient topics are made for extension - there is really only the interpretations of historians to deal with (which is the heart of the syllabus).

As one poster said above, remember this is not a straight history course. You have to be able to say "how" historians have interpreted the evidence and most importantly "why" they have interpreted it this way. I cannot stress enough that the why question is so important.

If you are doing it right, most of your research for the project should be on your historians and their background - in many cases this can be hard to find.

I do both Ancient and Modern. Just my lack of research into past questions has put me in trouble :p

Should I keep my topic or go with something not covered in any history syballus?
Advice guys?

my understanding was that you couldn't do a topic that is covered significantly in any hsc course. and it seems as though the gracchi are covered quite alot, considering I could very quickly pull out my notes from last year and probably write a whole lot on your focus question.

so you might have to change, but I'd ask your ext teacher to be sure

Hmm, I would think thank doing the Gracchi is right out considering its place in the Ancient History syllabus.

Im gonna send my Extension teacher an email in a second about the whole dilemma (and yell at him a bit :p) but i have come up with some new ideas.

- Historical Revisionism
- The History Wars
- Or The genocide in Rwanda.

Good ideas?

Are you allowed to do that? It is part of the modern syllabus.
