Since my acceptance into comp eng is a bit iffy right now, i wanna know if the transfer rate after 1 year of CompSci into CompEng is Good. (a % would be excellent)

Also i know a distinction avg is needed, and im fully prepared to only go partying once in a while so i can get it ^^

I don't think there are any statistics avaliable on this kind of thing - if you have the marks for it you can probably transfer.

I can tell you theres a good chance you'll want to stay in comp sci. One too many times have I heard people say they regret picking comp eng or seng because they thought it was good since it has a higher cut off / more popular / sounded better. I'm not saying they're bad things, but there are people that regret their choice, as with any other program.

Some people here can vouch for that.

In response to sunny, I don't regret SENG, but it is not what I expected it to be. So make sure that you are truly aware of how Comp Eng differs from Comp Sci before you decide, as you will find Comp Eng is even closer to Comp Sci than SENG is.

The only senger I'm aware of that regretted seng is the person who sold me the french dictionary. Everyone else seemed to like it, saying that the picture will come together in 3rd year, or something.

Or maybe i just know too much of the smart bunch? ;)

Your chance of transferring is high given you do well in your first year subjects. Chances are you can probably create a timetable very similar to Comp eng in first year - from memory, all the subjects are the same in first session and there are few differences in 2nd session.

In fact, comp sci is the most flexible of the UNSW computing courses - using your electives you can build a course which is very similar to Comp Eng or Soft Eng.

Similar is all Comp Sci will ever be. Never the same, never.

Thats the best part - it means comp sci can choose not to do some of the crappy subjects that comp engers and sengers have to do.

Of course they're not the same - in compsci you are given the choice to build up your electives as you wish, whereas in seng and comp eng you can focus more on the detailed work of software (design and project work) and computers (hardware). It depends whether you want to specialise in a particular area or not.

But due to that, it will always remain a semi-par science degree, not a STRONG engineering OVERLOAD degree.

Thanks for the info, i think ill transfer as i am more into the networking side of computers and i know the course you need to do for that is comp eng focus on networking.
my 2 weeks work expereince at telstra was really enjoyable, which is what made me make up my mind.

If thats the case, you might even want to look at Telecommunications instead.
