This is a question for those who live 45mins-1hr+ away from their uni. What form of transport do you use to get to uni: car, bus, train, other? What is the cheapest way of travelling such distances? What have been your experiences of using CityRail?

i have to go by train, about 1-2 hours if it gets delayed, i don't have a car yet so i can't drive so i have to use the train - it's cheaper than petrol anyway but yeah the delays at times concerns me...but it should'nt be too hectic coz i chose all morning times, but in the afternoons they tend to be late........hopefully they will be limited delays...
I travel between eastwood and richmond for uni. Using cityrail cause I don't have a car. Even though a car would be so much easier and save time, however catching the train does have its advantages. You can catch up on sleep, its a great time to socialise and you can do homework and assignments on the train. All up its take well over 2 hours to get to richmond and then its another 20min walk to uni. I spend $28 a week (purple weekly) its cheaper than petrol, however, the richmond line is one of the worst lines you can catch a train on, the trains are constantly late. On time for the richmond line is usually about 15 mins after the timetabled time.

most of my lectures start at 11, so i will be catching a lift with my mum who works in bankstown (im going bankstown campus) and i guess i'll catch a train home, prob catch a train to parra and then bus home....does bankstown station trains go directly to parra station?

i work and will be studying in the city.
my parents have decided that we're moving for no reason but to live closer to their unsuccessful resturaunt. Moving from Ryde to Greystanes, which is FURTHER AWAY from uni and work. My mum said it'll take me around two hours, which I find hard to comprehend, but fuck, how considerate.

They also forcing me to give up any form of social life to concentrate on my studies. Cuz I have no self control, don't I.
But on topic. Train. If I don't move out soon.

bus and train will do the job
as long as u plan right for which ticket u wanna buy for ur train travelling, then u can save some money for sure, by the way bankstown doesn't have a direct train to parra, but u can catch it in lidcombe, i am not that happy with cityrail, but i guess we all have to take the train anyway

Depends which uni rantman. And all accommodation would be full by now. Travelling by train isn't really that bad, you get used to it. You just need to plan everything out, especially if you need to switch for trains and buses. And its not nessecarily cheaper to live on campus.

Living on campus would definately not be cheaper than travelling lol.... you are looking at $120+ a week.... add on food, bills, etc and it is expensive. But it may be worth it if you have a really long distance to travel.

hmmm usually takes me about 45-1hr on the train... depending on whether i get fast train or all stations. but eh, i have a car... but much cheaper and way easier to just catch the train ... i kinda enjoy just sitting there listning to music

As far as I know it's quicker to walk from refern, and it's not that bad, maybe 10 mins or so.kow_dude said:

I used to live in Ryde (when I was a baby), and then I moved to Greystanes at the age of 3. It's a much nicer area here. Besides, now you get to take the train to and from the Con with me and Michael Smetanin.ur_inner_child said:

its a very easy walk. something like 5 mins downhill. ive done it a couple of times now. ive heard redfern is quicker but yeah, central is just straight line almost. its easy. besides you walk past 5 pubs between USYD and central. rofl.kow_dude said:

i am travelling for about 50-60 mins to uni and i will be catching a train to Parramatta Station then a bus to uws Parramatta then walk for 1-2 minutes
