Thats the samething. 1/2ln3 = 1/2 ln3 @HoldingOn

What u mean is 1/(2ln3) which is definitely something else

But the substitution is not there to force you to use it, right? It's there because in 3U integration one is not expected to be able to find substitutions, only apply them.

I was amazed to find that appropriate substitutions are provided in Ext 1. Why can't students be required to figure out the feasible substitutions themselves. In my HSC days, substitutions were very seldom provided.

In the past, many questions required you to use the given substitutions; e.g. "using the substitution . . . , find . . . ". Recently, I find questions often had "or otherwise" option.
