Diablo 2 is not an rpg technically

rpg = role playing

in games like BG series (my all time fav rpg :p) u have up to 6 chars, each with their weaknesses and strengths
e.g. a mage gets killed on his second whack, but can take out a dragon in one spell (with some luck)

THAT is roleplaying

whereas, in diablo 2, u can go around picking fights until u have an uber character thats basically "superman" and goes around chopping everything. fun for stress relief / escape from reality, but isnt a real rpg

most rpgs you chop things until you get an uber character :)

rpg=role playing game=rocket-propelled grenade=radioisotope power generator=rape prevention glasses :D

a true D2 player would never chop anything except when PKing... i use get rushed and use bots all the time... its all about the different legit builds you can try... to obtain the best char on battlenet. :p

it takes 10 hours of calculating and experimenting on single player and then its all rushes and bots... hahaha. dueling afterwards to see if the char is actually good or not. if not repeat the process... ;)

but i think BG is a bit to strategy game like for me... FF is the best when it comes to true role-playing. so who thinks FF7 is the best game of all time?

Being a connosieur of RPGs id have to say FF series r like one of the best
after the 50 ish hours i spend on each, i can look back throughout the game and i get a fuzzy feeling of satisfaction. The plots are touching and well done, chars, gameplay bleh, everything! I guess its like finishing a really good book; cept better cos its got animation and sound unlike a book.

FF7 was my first; like back in year 6, farhhh... so cool! but all the FF r like equally good to me, cant really distinguish

anybody have ff7 on PC? I had a copy a while ago but I didn't burn it and now I really regret it (even though it was five discs or something, and this was back in the time of 2x burners or something..) :(

THAT is roleplaying
Last time I look roleplaying didn't have to involve combat at all.

Or rules.

It's like acting without a script - you take the role of a character, and try to act out that character the best you can, for example portraying strengths/weaknesses (whiny, hotheaded, cowardly, compassionate, level-headed, greedy, etc), relationships with other characters (players, or non-players created by the DM/GM/Game) and the world around them.

Pen & Paper games like D&D simply add structure the combat sequences and spells, as well as providing a crutch for DMs who aren't up to acting out Non-Player Characters (they have tables for personality, for crying out loud).

Heck, have a diceless, free-form game sometime with a good DM. It rocks.

(Heck, this is more at home with Arts students rather than, say, IT students, for example, but D&D has a geeky image attached to it, so most acting types seem to stay away. Pity, we need more people who can actually act/roleplay, rather than just roll dice/click on the baddie until they die.)
