Hi, i do the following subjects: English Std, Maths Ext. 1, Maths Ext. 2, Physics, SDD and ITVET.

I was wondering if it would be possible to get a UAI of 90+ (90 is fine) with marks (scaled) such as:

English Std: 70
Maths Ext 1.: 90
Maths Ext 2.: 80
Physics: 90
SDD: 90
ITVET: 90

SAM says that yes i would be able to, but yeah im not so sure.

Thanks.

If those are your scaled marks, then they *should* give you 90+. However, remember that SAM uses aligned HSC marks, not scaled marks. Scaling is a whole different boat that's unavailable to students, so SAM uses different methods to estimate a UAI.

Also, if you put already scaled marks into SAM, it scales them again. It'll give you a dodgy estimate.

By the looks of it, I think you can get 90+, I mean the maths and physics scale well and you're aiming for that range where you are greatly rewarded for doing these subjects and getting 80-90 for each, I'm pretty sure you can do it.

The marks i was talking about were HSC marks.. I get confused with all this moderated, aligned and ect. marks. The point was really to see if a 90+ UAI would still be available with good marks of all subjects, except english. I dont know if ill be able to get marks as such as these, probably not.. but ill try my best.

Ive heard rumours about getting a raw percentage of about 50% scales up to 90%, sounds a bit fishy...

So what raw test marks would you need (approx) in Maths Ext. 1 and Maths Ext. 2 to get 90% and 80% respectively. (Sorry if this is a stupid question that is asked all the time)

If those are HSC marks, they should guarantee a UAI of 90+. :)

The only place that could happen is Ext.2 Maths. A friend of mine swore he only got about 50% in the Ext. 2 paper, and his HSC mark was 89. Not sure exactly how accurate that is, but it's all I know.

You would want something around 65-70/84 for Ext. 1, and I'd guess 50-60% for Ext. 2. BUt try for as high as you possibly can - don't aim any lower. ;)
