Well considering you are ranked first in most of your subjects, and provided u keep those ranks, your performance in the HSC will depend on how well u do (assuming u do get the top exam marks too). So 95 shouldnt be a problem provided u do reasonably well in each subject (Band 5's and 6's)

ok, if i am ranked first after the trials!

does this mean that i will get the top hsc (exam) mark (either if i get it or someone else?)?

and if ranking first, does this mean that there will not be anyone pulling/dragging me down? like the bottom halp of some of these classes are Very Weak!!!

if your first you are 100% immune since you get the top highest HSC exam mark as your internal assessment.

But coming first in school is a indicator that you will also come first in the hsc exam so most likely that will be your hsc mark :)

also, band 5s and band 6s...

Bank 5 is between 80 and 90 and band 6 is 90 plus... but is this a raw mark directly from my exam paper results? or is this after all scaling and stuff!

after it has been aligned

if they think a band 6 means a raw mark of 83/100 and you got 84 then you qualify for a band 6 and your marks get aligned accordingly

if your marks are relatively close then your hsc marks should be similar.

the way subjects are aligned changes significantly every year

as quoted by lazarus ^^

Ragerunner is correct... the raw band cut-offs haven't been (and probably won't be) published. :)

So... Who can tell where the cut offs are?!?!?!

i mean.. obvously, 3 unit maths scales higher than 2unit maths... but how much higher? i'm sure you can find that info...right???

If you cannot... than you could not know where to aim... (raw marks to get in the top bans)...

No one knows what the cut-offs have been in previous years. Some people have made guesses, based on their own estimates of their raw marks after they've done the exam paper and the aligned mark that they actually ended up with. They're only very rough guesses though.

3u maths usually scales higher than 2u maths, but scaling is different to aligning, and has nothing to do with bands.

so i "really" don't know what to aim for (in raw mark terms) to get a top band..

of cause maths 3u is scaled higher than maths 2u... but how much??? is that what i am trying to find out???

NOW i'm confused! so whats the difference between scaling and aligning? Which one is most imporant.??

So getting a band 6 in Woodworks is as good as a Band 6 in Physics? because they are 'weighted' the same! due to the process of aligning? right!?!?!

Your raw marks are processed in two ways:

raw HSC marks -> aligning -> aligned HSC marks -> certificate
raw HSC marks -> scaling -> scaled HSC marks -> UAI

As you can see, the 'aligned' marks are the ones that appear on your BOS Record of Achievement, and the 'scaled' marks are the ones used for your UAI. The bands and so on are determined entirely by your aligned HSC marks, and have nothing to do with scaling, how your marks were scaled, or your UAI.

The aligning and scaling processes have been explained elsewhere in this forum... though if you have specific (and previously unanswered) questions you can start a new thread.

You can't compare aligned marks or bands between courses; band 6 in woodworks (is that even a subject?) isn't the same as a band 6 in physics. Aligning doesn't make marks comparable between subjects, like scaling does - it instead allows marks to be compared between years according to the standards and performance bands for that course.
