if anyone is expecting to do well in the hsc and wants to do a prestigeous course, it's automatically assumed that they only want to do it because of the cut-off or because of the money.

yeah true treu but thats why im asking him and not just stating it because ill feel like a bitch if i say thats why he wants it when maybe hes actually interested...
but hey your right a lot of smart people just aim for those courses because it makes them appear intelligent...
even thought i think design at uts or something was like 95 this year and please... as if they can say that someone with a 95 would be better at designing than someone with say 80...you need to be creative, to have a thing for colour etc etc... its all the god dam demand and i hate the way it works

hmm, not really for the money... i have this romantic image of lawyers, prestigious it may be, but also witty, intelligent, charming and champions at the law court. that's a very attractive image.

Dentistry? well i think it's because i think a lot of little kids nowadays (eg. my sister) eat too much lollies and have too many cavities and fillings, and i wanna stop that. i dun mind staring into people's mouth, as long as after cleaning them they're nice and white.

Medicine? you could say it kinda runs in the family... my dad's an acupuncturist (a guy who sticks needles into people)... basically he sees a lot of pain-management, workers-compensation and occupational health related cases, where the people are in lots of pain; so i want to relieve people's pain - that's the main reason i wanna do medicine.

what uni do u want to go to? have u looked at what each one offers in terms of those sorts of courses?

yeah, tossing up between USYD and UNSW for Commerce/Law, UNSW and UNewcastle for Medicine, and applying to UMelbourne for Dentistry. all good

edit: oh and if you read earlier in this thread, you'll find out that i'm in love with USYD and its sandstone-built warmth/fuzziness

yes there is - but available in post-graduate@USYD only

but if it was available as undergrad course i would go bcoz the dental teaching hospital is opposite central station!
