For all the medicine students on the board:

Could you please post the Uni that you attend, your umat results and the uai you achieved if you don't mind.

Just to help us hopefuls have an idea of how high we should be aiming for for the different uni's.

Hmm actually I may have been remembering AusMedStudent. This information is definitely avalaible on the board but perhaps not as easy to find as you would like. Using such a crappy, vague thread title doesn't help either.

Since I'm feeling nice I'll help you out (had to go through a few searches to find my own results) - the stuff below was taken from this thread.

UWA MBBS Undergraduate

2003 UAI: 79.10
2004 TPS: 5.75

2004 UMAT Scores: [61;69;76]
2004 UMAT Ranks: [88;98;99]

Overall Score: 206
Average Score: 68.67

Overall Rank: 285 (of 300)
Average Rank: 95

I did, click the link in my post to see my first set of results. They also got interviews everywhere but my UAI prevented any place offers (I only attended the Newcastle interview).

There are a thousand reasons for that.

Btw Your ability in umat is not really proportional to your ability in the HSC.

HSC is a hard work competition if it's anything like the VCE.

Actually I didn't choke. I just didn't do any work. I never liked the system, and I refused to play the game. That's what happens when you don't do what the Board tells you to like a good little boy.

Alvin's right about the rote learning though. Even for English people were just memorising their stories and their essays for the BIG DAY. Spontaneity? Creativity? HA!

its an ok umat for most unis... u should JUST get an interview.

but unsw allows u to have a lower umat if ur uai is higher

yeh unsw allows u to compensate for a bad performance in one of the 3 criteria with a good performance in another.

uws and newcastle, on the other hand, (correct me if i'm wrong), have barriers where if u get a certain uai or higher, u pass that hurdle, then if u get a certain umat or higher, u pass that hurdle, and then the remaining ppl are ranked based on the interview.

Srs,

Damn u guys went well in the UMAT. My mate did it last year and onli got like 163. he made it into med at USYD, the combined med/advanced science degree. Apparently onli 8 ppl got it. Although his UMAt was pretty shitty, maybe his UAI compensated for it . He got 99.95 UAI.

UMAT is not a criteria for Usyd med

they only look at your UAI (+interview)
