It's just a hypothetical situation, I think.
It appear that that is the premise.

I probably would go for Commonwealth paid-for UNSW. If there's anything better than that, I'd take it, no questions asked.
Double-degree as well.

i have a personal theory (based on the relatively small number of interns/registrars i've worked with) that UNSW produces the nicest doctors

Me? Arts/Med? Well, I'm not too sure on what an Arts degree is, but it does sound interesting; sadly, interesting isn't enough to get me to do it - I'd consider it, though.

I'm interested in sciences and medicine, so maybe, just maybe, Med major with some science minor.

Dunno.

I believe that is because USyd only offer graduate medicine.
Your supposition is most accurate there, dyun! No undergrad USyd Med. This is why people go to UNSW.

Usyd does offer ~10 places for yr 12 leavers... to do their provisional entry to medicine via BSc(Med or Adv or Music)...7 yrs

kido_1: ROFL u cant make a judgement about an MBBS course based on results for PhD/Masters students and Researchers work.

-Umelb is 5 yrs [2 yrs sciences + 3 ys clinical practices](MBBS) + 1 yr medical research [aka adv med sci yr](BMedSci) = 6 yrs
-UWS = UMelb MBBS course - the BMedSci = 5 yrs
-Newcastle and Melb uses the same system (2 step PBL teaching)

-UAdelaide and Usyd share the same course style (3 step PBL)

Lucid Scintilla: if u realli want to do science... medicine there is very little science.. its mostly practical...and lots of memorisation and lots of self learning.. i recall we spent doing biochem in 1 lecture that ppl in BSc do in 1 semester.. there is very lil depth...

Thanx for the advice, I am just a rookie unlike most of the pros on this site.
I jus wanted to ask can u not do the science thesis in UMELB and make it a 5 yr course. Do u have a choice?

honestly.. nothing.. its just tradition at UMelb to make their degree look bigger.. all other unis do the minimum research component required by the aust med council..

in fact.. MBBS (+BMed and BMBS) do so much research and readings ... for PhDs we auto qualify if u want to do it without honours (tho having honours preps u).. .. food for thought..
