Is buying books from there cheaper than going to stores like Dymocks? Or are they roughly the same cost?

You generally get a student discount from the UNSW bookshop on books that you're buying for study (or even outside your area of study if you're interested in them) - however the discount (10% i think) does not apply to non-educational books IIRC.
The cost of the books depends on your electives and whether you deem them necessary. Look at spending about $200+ per sem if you want to buy every single book I think.... of course you could always buy them second hand..

Hmm.. i'm a pooro so i'm gonna ask this on behalf of my fellow pooro friends as well as me. Where do i get second hand books from ? Would they be significantly cheaper than the new ones ? Should i get new ones or second hand ones depending on cost and condition ? Can i sell those books back when i've finished with them or should i keep them for future reference ? (Sorry about the bombardment of questions.. i'm just curious, that's all. Thanx) Cheers~! =)

Yeah, you can buy books which aren't part of your course. I've bought some novels which are studied in Arts courses...
I have no idea, I haven't been there for a while (heh). Just go to the counter and ask.
I only got 2 for session 1. You really only need 1 (the thick INFS textbook, not the Microsoft Access one)
Also, you'll need the MATH course packs (details will be given in first few maths lessons, bring around $70 dollars on the first day for MATH course packs)

You can try the second hand bookstore, but you'd have to be very quick, as they tend to go really quick, some books will be up to 50% off retail. Alternatively, you can look around the noticeboards (near the second hand bookstore, or on the stairway from the Quad to the commerce courtyard) where ppl usually privately sell their old books

No books for session 2 (only course packs for maths and my elective).
No programming books, I didn't want them (lectureres were good enough without the books)
