Hi there,

I am currently confused about doing bcom from either unsw or usyd. I have a scholarship from usyd and it is closer and will take me half the time to get to unsw. Where as for unsw I have heard it is more prestigious for commerce and I will have better job opp.

Which uni is better? Any feedbadk will be greatly appreciated

UNSW is better.

Sure, it takes longer to get there - but it's short term pain, long term gain.

uws, uts, usyd, macq, unsw none of it matters once you get that job and work in the industry for 10 + yrs. anybody that tells you otherwise is fooling themselves or has never worked in the industry.

im currently at usyd because it's close to home but i'm thinking of changing next semester or possibly next year because of its archaic timetabling system + nonexistent support for part time students.

take the scholarship... you already worked hard for it with applications and what not, otherwise you wasted their time and yours

It doesn't really matter between the two and if you have so many pros for Sydney you should take it. However when you graduate and taking an MBA or any other Masters i am pretty sure the AGSM UNSW's MBA program is the best in Australia... in comparison Sydney only began its graduate program like this year. But then if you doubled law with comm by some how transfer with law by transferring would even need an MBA?

USyd is prestigious in general. If it's closer and you have a scholarship, I'd recommend USYD.

it doesn't matter. the general consensus is gonna be UNSW because majority of people on this forum go to UNSW. At an undergraduate level they are all the same (usyd and unsw) you wont have better job opps by going to unsw. what matters much much more is your gpa/wam rather than what uni you went to...

EDIT: pick Usyd coz you travel less and you've got a scholarship. also the atar cut off is higher because unsw gives bonus points which leads to an inflated cut off

come usyd commerce!
I chose it over unsw commerce because degree wise they are basically the same. i just loved the atmosphere at usyd.
you would be stupid to not take that scholarship. if it was a scholarship from western sydney, thats another story...

like many people said above, most people on BOS attend UNSW so yeah.

What do you mean? MBA is a post-graduate degree and you need solid work experience/networks to qualify.

I don't understand the whole: "Most of the people here go UNSW - so don't listen to them"

Wouldn't a better explanation be: "Most people here go to UNSW because they found it to be a better choice than Sydney?"

Just making he/she aware that information on BOS could be bias. Who said "don't listen to them" ?

clearly for OP, usyd is the better choice (travel time + scholarship). If it was Stanford and a scholarship from USYD. different story.

HSC plus points, AAA scholarship etc.
USYD comm atar cut off went up by 0.95 this year lol unexpected because almost everyone i know doing commerce is doing it at unsw

but really, both are the same degree.

Personally I would choose UNSW over Usyd under same condition. But if Usyd offers you scholarship and is closer for you to travel there, then I would choose Usyd without any hesitation.

Although it's one more thing you can list on your CV, if you choose USYD, they're more or less the same thing. Carefully consider what each offers you, more than campus, travel, prestige, exclusivity, and (other) superficial and minor but by no means unimportant factors, then choose. If you still can't, accord more weight to the other things.

Don't necessarily be swayed by the pittance that is scholarship money. Also, don't be swayed by who goes where or how many go where. An argument to counter most here attend UNSW is that you have a selection bias, perhaps owing due to deeper things such as work ethic (I don't know; USYDers are being busy beavers IRL?).

That's a moot point and a ridiculous comparison; Australia doesn't really have any good or solid specialist higher-education institutions.

One of the most important things is to make the most out of uni. Even if you were to attend, say, Harvard or Oxford, if you simply cruised by and didn't do much more, you'd be doing yourself a disfavour and everyone else who could've made better use of those years disservice and injustice, even if you could.
