Hey, i just finished my hsc this yr (2007) and will be going to uni in 2008 (fingers crossed). I want to do a health science course at usyd (obviously =.=). Physio is out coz my uai is nowhere near enough. I was thinking occupational therapy or rehab counselling.

I was just wondering if anyone could give me any intel on these topics. Also, i heard that these topics are dominated by females, like over 90% females for most the health science courses. I'm a guy, so this is a bit intimidating (as weird as that ^^;; sounds). So, is there any truth to this thing about this female domnating the health science courses? And also, would that prove to be an advantage or disadvantage to me if i were to do, say, occupational therapy, despite being one of the few guys doing the course?

Thanks, i really appreciate any replies and answers =]

Well Im not sure about OT and rehab counselling, but 4 physio, if u don't have the required uai u can enroll in exercise sport science- uai 87ish and do a Master of physio after. but offcourse u'll have to perform exeptionally in that course. If your uai doesnt meet 87ish, u may still get in by flexible entry.

Im hoping 2 get into physio nxt yr, so im praying 4 the uai to go down n 4 bous points 4 math.

and LOL to the female domination thing. im not to sure about the ratio, but if it's true, t means u'll be popular :p

As far as i know, there are more females than males but not >90%. Im not sure but i think the ratio was 80:20. But when u actually attend uni it doesnt seem like its over populated with females cos theres quite a lot of guys around, especially guys from exercise and sport science. Im not too sure on things about occupational therapy but whether less males is an advantage or disadvantage would be up to u to decide. E.g. If you want a girlfriend then theres more girls to choose from i guess. Lol yeh its really up to u.

Glass has it spot on, really. M to F ratio can vary heaps depending on your course though, there were only 1 or 2 guys in first year speech therapy last year as far as I know. Other courses, like exercise and sport science, will have their fair share of guys.

If you're unsure of which course you'd like to do, you might want to consider the bachelor of health science... after first year you pick a specialised stream (from memory there were four), or if you don't think it's for you, maintaining a credit average allows you to apply for transfers.

Good luck :D
