UWS Regional Entry Test 2005

The Regional Entry Test is one way to increase your options to gain entry to the University of Western Sydney as an undergraduate student in 2006.
How do I apply for RET?
Eligible students will receive at their home address in July, an information letter from UWS, an explanatory brochure on RET and a personalised STAT/RET registration form. If you are eligible and you have not received your registration form, please contact us on 1800 897 669. Please note registrations close Wednesday 10 August 2005.
How will my RET result be considered?
Students will be given a competitive rank based on their performance in the test that can work like a UAI in allocating offers to UWS. For this rank to be used students must:
achieve a UAI* of no more than 10 points below the 2005 published cut-off** for the UWS course to which they wish to be considered.***
list a UWS course/s as one of their preferences to UAC.
Once students have satisfied the criteria, their RET score – if higher than their UAI* – will be used during the 2006 UAC offer rounds.
* IB students will be able to phone UWS to convert their IB Diploma to a rank equivalent to the UAI.
** Published UAI cut-offs are local HECS based course cut-off's. In the case of new courses offered for the first time in 2006, UWS will nominate a cut-off for RET purposes.
*** Note: 10 points are NOT added to either the UAI* result or the RET score.

Why should I sit this test?
If tertiary study is your goal for next year, or even if you are not sure whether this is your goal, you should use every available means to secure a position at university.
At this stage, you may be unsure which university, or which course, you will choose. By sitting for the RET you are increasing your chance of selection for a place at UWS. For admission the year following Year 12 you may be selected via one of two options: either your RET or your UAI/IB Diploma. For subsequent years you may be selected on either your UAI/IB Diploma or the STAT.
Whether or not you accept any offer to university is a decision you can make later. However, by sitting for the RET you are keeping all available options open. Should it be required, the RET offers you another chance to be eligible for a university place at UWS.
What does the RET consist of?
The Regional Entry Test is a general literacy, numeracy and reasoning skills test that year 12 students in Greater Western Sydney can sit to gain an additional score to their UAI or IB Diploma that may assist their application to UWS.
The test is a version of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT), which is composed of two parts – multiple choice which tests verbal and quantitative skills, and written English which tests writing skills. The RET takes three hours plus 15 minutes of reading time, however approximately 4 hours should be allowed to include test administration.
When will the RET be held?
Eligible RET candidates must sit STAT at one of the special UWS STAT sessions held on Saturday, 10 September 2005 and Sunday, 11 September 2005 on the following campuses at 8.30 am and 1.30 pm. When you register, you will have a choice of the day, campus and time you wish to sit the test.
Please note: you should choose the venue that is most conveniently located to you, regardless of the campus on which your preferred course is based AND you should check to ensure that your Year 12 exam timetable does not clash with any of the days and times you select to sit the RET.

How much does the RET cost?
The cost to sit RET is a non-refundable registration fee. The 2005 fee will be $132.00.
What do I need to take to the test session?
Your UAC STAT confirmation letter (which will be posted to you together with your STAT information booklets in late August once you have registered for the test).
One form of photo identification, such as:
an Australian driver's license,
current passport,
photographic proof of age card,
workplace photographic identification card,
a statutory declaration together with a photo that has been signed on the back by the witness (a Justice of the Peace with a registration number) to the statutory declaration.
Note: The identification must contain a recent photograph that is a recognisable likeness of the candidate at the time of sitting the test - a childhood photograph in a passport is not acceptable).
B, 2B or HB pencils, an eraser and sharpener for the STAT Multiple Choice.
A black or blue ball point pen for the STAT Written English.
When will I get my results?
In mid-November 2005, UWS will provide you with your RET score and UAC will provide you with your STAT result.
What courses can I apply for with RET?
You can apply for a place in any UWS undergraduate award course offered through UAC except those listed below, as additional selection criteria apply.
For information on courses and cut-offs, please refer to Table 1 and Part 2 of the UAC 2006 Guide.

Who is eligible to sit the RET?
To be eligible students must:
Be completing the NSW HSC in 2005 and qualify for a UAI, or be completing the International Baccalaureate (IB) in 2005 and qualify for the Diploma
Live permanently in and/or attend a high school or TAFE in the UWS catchment area. More specifically, your home, school or TAFE postcode must be one of the following:

Where do I return my registration form?
Eligible candidates must complete and return their registration form to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) at the address on the form by the closing date of Wednesday 10 August 2005. Registration forms received after this date cannot be processed.
