I have video's in *.avi files on a DVD (which I burnt as a Data Disc). I was wondering what options I have if I want to watch them on the TV.

I have heard of "DVD-ROMs" that allow you to connect to the TV via AV RCA Cables. Is this correct?

Also, what about DVD Players that can play such formats?

Thanks.

There are a few out there which do support the avi format, although i've never personally used on, ive heard from friends that they are great.

Omni was one of them from memory.

I just hook the svideo out from my video card and hook it up that way to the tv.

JB Hifi / ARC computers sell them too.

Just go in, ask for a DivX compaitble dvd player (sometimes referred to as mpeg4 player).

there are lot of known branded dvd players out there that play divx (mpeg4). Like for example i got a LG dvb418 player and so far it has played everything i thrown at it. Also watch out with the cheap ones, as i heard some have problems playing old divx movies ie divx version < 4

Why dont you just burn them as DVD-Video? (nero will do the job) so you can watch them on any DVD player without having to fork out $200

Well you can fit more files on a DVD-R in AVI format than in raw dvd-video.
Exactly. :uhhuh:

Edit: And also, converting files/having problems with converting files is time consuming and frustrating.

Apart from not being able to fit more than 1-2 movies on a DVD, using VSO DivxtoDVD is usually an hour long, one touch solution so ;)

Yeah if its something special which needs specific high-end conversion then i'll use CCE or TMPGEnc but for normal movies without too great a loss, DivxtoDVD takes care of things quite well

yea for sure, VSO divx to DVD is perfect, just make sure you find a keygen and register it otherwise your finished product will have an advertising banner blocking the top half of your tv screen

if the output files are too big for single dvd, just run them through DVDshrink to squeeze it, total time, maybe 2.5hrs, with plenty of frustration :)
