Robert Cormier, the author of We All Fall Down presents a distinctive message about society and conveys that things are not what they seem. Cormier presents his readers an with an idealised American middle-class suburbia which is represented through an illusion of the 'American dream'. Cormier conveys this message to inform his readers of the dangers that exist in society and under a benign surface lies a menacing truth which is very confronting.
Cormier addresses issues through the novel to present his readers with this confontingmessage through the idea of the breakdown in a family unit, which has consequences affecting individuals and presents a decline in morals and values. Cormier uses techniques to convey this issue through characterisation, setting and through the method of narration.

Cormier begins the novel by following the conventions of a traditional thriller, with the use of having a confronting violation at the beginning allows Cormier to add suspension and mystery to the rest of the novel....
