well... 05'rs, i did absurd (waiting for godot, bald prima donna and the dumb waiter) and australian bush and city (summer 17th doll and touch of silk) so if you need help with that, just ask! :uhhuh:

as with what ip to do, like grk said, do what you feel comfortable with! if you REALLY aced your prelim. monologue, and think you can do it again, stick with it. But you just have to be completely prepared, that's all.

If you have a thing about nerves, try and steer away from performance... after all, your mark relies solely on ONE day, ONE performance!
Whereas a submitted thingo is ... like.... worked on and stuff... and you won't be there when the markers are marking it..... yes

so... i hope that made sense?

ok so i also am an 05er, and i was thinking performance but after reading all of the posts i am a little worried about that! What should i do, i mean i could do critical analysis but already am for ee2. HELP
Think about, If I didn't do performance, what would I do...

I did both ee2 (Critical Analysis) and Applied Research Project. Don't do that.

Try and offset your MW, your english one for example is analytical, try and find something creative for drama. Play to your strengths, but also make sure you have a variety. Drama IPs, like english, are really easy to get sick of, so you don't want to stop work on one MW only to start up on one EXACTLY like it! Plus for IP Research, Research is a bitch. Your obviously good at writing if your doing ee2, so maybe Diretor's Folio (although I heard this is alot of work), Design, or Scriptwriting. Performance is fine as long as your able to compete against the other 60 or so percent of the state who do it. Those at the top of that bracket don't need to worry about crap marks due to perfomrance IP.

Does that help?

Yeah thanx, i go to a school that sort of specialises in drama so i'm kind of here among alot of the top bracket which is challenging but also means that i have access to awesome teachers, i think that i might take on the challenge and try performance, it really is my passion and i think that if i really stuff up then i can drop the unit. Thanx, Good luck on Monday

dont let us sonfuse you or change ur mind!!!
for my ee2 i did critical analysis -but we really didnt have much of a choice- and for my drama ip i did a performance.
if your like me, you have to ask yourself, will you really be able to handle getting through the year and thinking.. "maybe i could have blitzed it if i did performance..." i would be itching to jump onstage and perform.. haha gp wasnt enough for me!!i wanted more!

dont let others decide for you. if you have doubts because your not sure if thats what you want... then try something else.
if your only doubting because everyone says "this" or "that", remember, its YOUR ip.

just make sure you understand whats invloved in every option though.
:) haha.. thats me, alice-inpirational-motivating-"cherish(lol, remember her billy?)-speaker at your service!!!

ok.. so i havent decided what play still but i was thinking about designing the costumes digitally using photoshop. the teacher said however that she has only ever seen hand drawn ones get into onstage.. could she be insinuating that doing it digitally wont get the good marks?

I dont mean to defer you from design.. but the markers definately prefer hand drawn ones... becoz they are more artistic - (its not the costume... its the meaning) and definately presentation is very important - you see - hand drawn ones are more obviously not "plagiarised" - you know? like it is easy to grab a pic print it and claim it - but drawing it - who'd bother stealing?
Hope that made sense

i agree. i wouldnt do it digitally. definately hand drawn's the way to go.
if your not confident about you drawing abilities, why dont you get someone to draw a basic full body outline, maybe also portrait shots, get photocopies of them, then just draw on your designs over the top? i mean, i would assume one of the hardest things about drawing is getting the shape of things right...
well, its a suggestion anyway

I think that if you do costume design, remember your competing with alot of people who do art (same with poster/program) so go all out with your mediums, be bold and daring... experiment. Somehow have your presentation reflect your concept for the play. Like if your concept has something to do with the natural vs the artifical (here comes the days worth of english) have some costumes sketched on highly glossy paper, and have others on brown recycled paper to emphasise this! thats really wanky, but theres some genuinly good stuff you can do

just a suggestion, but billy, why dont you create little sub sections for each type of ip? like one for costume design, one for performance, etc..
only coz it gets a bit too confusing, especially when you have like, a thread each couple of weeks basically on the topic "what are you doing for ip?"

also, this way, those of us more "experienced" drama students could help out with more specifically in our area of expertise!

I don't think we can get subthreads for each IP, basically cause there is too much SPAM :p... I might be able to get... IP Performance, Design, Critical Analysis and Scriptwriting. Would that work? OR i could just do a seperate thread for each... hmmm... what do you all think? '05'rs you'll be using them...

Yeah i'm doing the same topics and plays, if you could send me some notes or something that would be great but cool if you don't want to.

For my IP i'm pretty much set on doing performance mainly cause i love it, and i'm told i'm good at it. But i dont know where to look for a monologue that suits me

dont worry too much. youve got quite a while.. but just make sure you make a solid decision in the end. make sure you take every opportunity you get to perform so you can get a feeling as to what you feel more comfrotable performing and "right" for you, and also gives you an idea of what works with your own individual style.

well a lot of my friends tried the performing arts bookshop in the city, but found the shopkeepers to be a bit rude/unwilling to help, i think looking around on the internet for info about plays and monologues as well as checking out some of the aussie plays on at the moment and ones that have been on recently, is a really good idea.

there are usually a few one-man shows on about the place; perhaps you should find out about them, see which you're interested in and go see a couple.

also, don't be afraid to ask your teacher/s (who have been teaching you for the last couple o' years!!). that's what i did; i went to a teacher whose drama company i was in and i rlly liked my character, and he was able to recommend a monologue that he thought would best demonstrate my ability :)
