Google is your friend :)

Are they new additions to the syllabus? I don't remember having to learn about them last year.

Back in the days (1800s maybe I cant really remember) there was this big dispute between thomas edison and westinghouse about which form of electricity to use (ac or dc). I m too lazy to explain so here are some links

didnt those 2 guys have an arguement on ac and dc motors? i remeber learning about these guys not long ago.

tesla was responsible for the ac motor... he discoevered the rotating b field.. and built the first induction thingy. (ah wait... you dont need him...)

edison was for the dc generator..

hmmm... im pretty unsure so u should really check em up.

Basically it started with natural gas back in those days edison wanted to over throw natural gas and make electrical lighting that succeeded then came westing house who wanted to overthrow edison the way he did to natural gas. Both had AC power at the start and edison was giving false information on westinghouse but westinghouse didn;'t care and moved on, eventually westinghouse hired a scientist called tesla to make generators for him. They fight it out, edison controlling new york city and westinghouse the other places eventually when westinghouse was strong enough they moved into new york city.
the westinghouse over threw edison. Then came a long brown who beleived AC was more dangerous the DC so he set out to prove that by frying dogs with AC then with DC and the dogs of course survived on DC and died on AC, in doing so he set out to prove westinghouse wrong with the help of edison. They eventually got their idea across but westinghouse had convinced the people AC was the way to go, but later on westinghouse was proved wrong, so westinghouse and edison combined forces. Westinghouse providing the electricity while edison providing powerlines which was setup there. Westing house had developed a greater generator which could convert AC to DC with the help of tesla.

This was out of the top of my head please correct me if i am wrong thanks
