NO MATH -(Yr 11-12) so ECONOMICS instead?<!-- google_ad_section_end --> <hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225); background-color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <!-- google_ad_section_start -->This is my 1st post. Currently I am in Yr 10 and just uploaded my Yr 11 Prelim Units and have dropped Math entirely.

My questions are:

1. Can I still do Economics successfully without having any Math?
2. Also, Is it possible to gain a good ATAR/UAI without having ANY Math?
3. Is Multimedia IT a good worthwhile course?

I am looking at a combined degree in Humanities/Law or Journalism; Government- so have chosen the following for Yr 11:

English Advanced
English Prelim Extension
Japanese Continuers
Drama
Ancient History
Legal Studies
Economics
Multimedia Industrial Tech.

Hoping that current year 11 's will be able to advise me.

1. Yes, economics contains only a small amount of math.
2. Yes, any combination can lead to a good ATAR.
3. IT:MM is a good course if you like creating video, audio, graphics or interactive software. It can be quite challenging at times and requires project management; a large amount of documentation is required for each project. It used to be a category B course, but this year has been elevated to category A. Although I don't know how this will effect the scaling of it.

My choices are

Advanced English - 2 units
Mathematics + Ext. 1 - 3 units
Economics - 2 units
Society & Culture - 2 units
French Continuers - 2 units
Accounting (TVET) - 2 units

All together thats 13 units

If anyone reads this and has or are doing any of these subjects can you tell me whether they are recommendable or not?

Decided to change Econ for Society & C

So:
Do I count 15 units in your prelim? + Personally, bad choice swapping Society and Culture for Economics. Economics>Society & Culture in terms of aligning and scaling. Also I'd be far more interested in Eco! ^_^

Can't wait until year 11 to drop VA, Commerce and History/Geo (especially those last two -.-).

I've just started my subject selection process for year 11. I'm still abit perplexed, what I've learnt from this week is that these selections may possibily affect your ATAR mark (picking a subject your not competent in) and just feels like a spectre meticulously going through the dark corridors of my mind finding my vulnerabilty and capiltalising on it. Line conflicts inhibit selection at my school. The selection is to be placed in by next week and it may be:

1. Extension Mathematics
2. Extension English
3. Chemistry
4. Physics
5. Economics

= 12 Units.

Economics might not run, if the faculty does not achieve around fifteen plus students. I'm not satisfactorily confident in choosing chemistry - I'm aware I can dispose of it in year 11, however it is a prerequsite for Medicine. Does the UMAT consist of science base questions, such of that in the preliminary chemistry course?

FML. :\

You seem severely misguided my good friend. Chemistry is NOT a prerequisite to medicine; in fact there are no subject prerequsites for medicine. Chemistry is simply RECOMMENDED for medicine, it is not necessary to have studied it in high school, though it may prove beneficial.

And for the UMAT, the aim of it is to test basic skills such as problem solving, logical reasoning and communication, necessary for a career in any health related course at university. Academic brilliance does not necessarily equate to a good result in UMAT. Nor does intense study preparations courses.

BTW, I think you're worrying just a bit too much about subject selections. To succeed during these last years in school, you need to enter with an optimistic and driving mood, able to think you can achieve.
