What do you do in reading time? just do the first few questions or maybe look at the last ones? or just skim through randomly picking a question and doing it until the reading time is over.

In case of maths, I quickly flip through the exam to see where my strength lies and weaknesses. I also estimate how much I am going to spend. When I am done with that, the exam starts.

hmm this is what you should do in the reading time.. stuff question 1 and 2 because they are usually easy go to the last paper but here are some advantages and disadvantages..

we know the last page or last section is usually the hardest but you see if you can get an extra time plannin your answer for the lst part you can get some sort of idea on how to answer it when you get to it.. this is only the advantage as gettin an extra 5min ( fresh mind ) on answerin the last part and doing your little summary quickly or brain storm on what u gonna write ?

the disadvantage is what if it turns out to be a hard quesiton and you completely blank ( like what i do most of the times ) this could affect your overall performance..

i usually go to the last section and read the essay questions and the short answers etc etc and like quickly in my mind think how to appraoch quesiton because i still have a fresh mind and when u ready to write quickly in points form think of how u gonna write the answer etc etc..

i think thats how i use it efficently.

For English paper 1, I read through as many of the texts as I can. For all other subjects, I don't really have a strategy so to speak that I follow. I just go through the paper and check the questions out. I'll maybe also do a few multi-choices.

depends on the paper...
since i do humanities subjects though, it's more, really quick flick through the entire paper to get myself into excam mode and also so i know where each question i have to answer is. (especially the case with modern and ancient). that'll take up about one minute... then it's just starting to read the texts or sources so i can start question one when reading time finishes (or if it's modules paper for english, figure out which order to answer the questions in e.g. hardest first or easiest first? and then trying to nut out a thesis for that question in my mind)....

Usually in tests like English paper 1, after i've flipped through the whole exam quickly, i start reading the texts in the first section and answering the first couple questions in my head.
If it's an exam with multiple choice, again i flip through the whole thing, then start answering questions.
that way you get the first section done faster so you can move on to the rest of the paper.

in english i skim the texts quickly then arrange my essay in my mind because i always do essay-AOS-creative in that order.

in maths i just sit there.

in physics i finish the first few multichoice questions.

For Mathematics, I immediately look for the questions that would appear to cause me most difficulty in the exam. For science subjects, I start looking at the short and long response questions. As for English, I just use reading time to structure my responses.

In maths and chem, I have a quick look at the whole paper, and work out what I do and don't know. Then I use any time I have left to look at the multiple choice questions, and work out answers.
In the AOS and German papers, I look at the long answer questions so I can think about them while I'm looking at other stuff, then read as many of the texts as possible.
Everything else I read through the whole paper, and then think about what I'm going to do for the extended responses.

For most of my subjects I race right to the back to see the essay questions. For subjects like business studies, if you are clueless for the essays, you can say goodbye to 40% of the exam

eng & eng ext- flip through questions list points in my head that relate then start reading texts (paper 1).
maths - flip to last pages to get a feel for the last qs
maths ext - look at the first qs to try to nail them
ipt - just read
rel - sort out which short answers and which essay im gonna do
physics - just flip through repeating "im screwed" oveer and over in my head.

For essay responses, you should read them first so you can subconciously begin to formulate stuff. Usually finish half the MC for humanities

English paper 1- Flick to inner journeys and creative, make sure my preprepared responses can fit with altering, read through texts in reading and answer 1 mark qs in my head.

English Paper 2- Check questions, spend most time looking at speeches to figure out which speeches can fit question best, if there are any unusual questions plan how knowledge fits in.

Extension English- Get very worried, then remember it won't count and relax.

Maths & Ext Maths- Go back->front reading over questions, marking problem ones with my fingernail.

Legal- read essay questions, mark MC with my fingernail.

Chem- Flick through paper, mark any problem questions to leave til last with nail and start marking MC.

bio and business - figure out the answers to the m/c. if i can do that all in my five minutes reading time when it's expected to take 15-20 minutes, that's 20 minutes more on everything else.

english - paper 1, i go through all the unseen texts and pick out techniques, briefly look at the essay question (think of how to adapt my prepared essay) and creative so that's in the back of my mind. paper 2 = just reading the questions, organising my thoughts.

ancient - i look through all the questions, decide which essay to do in the 'historical period' section and which section i'll do first.

italian - look at the writing section and decide which questions, start thinking about which questions to do. then i go onto the reading and responding, i read the questions, get the general gist of the passage then look in more detail when the exam starts.
