I did that course for my first semester this year.
It's basically the UTS science degree in Physics. Really isn't much more to say.
It's also the course that people go into so they can get into uni...from my experience by the end of first year all students have either dropped out (realising that the course, or uni in general, isn't for them), transferred to another course/uni, or are still in applied physics because they didn't do well enough to transfer.
I know of only one person in my entire cohort who actually WANTED to be in applied physics. And even he is thinking of becoming a radiologist after graduation (ie graduate medicine).
