I always think of it as believe-ability!!

High modality - easy to believe and connects with audience

Low modality - unlikely, 'out of this world'

I think high modality is more forceful, certain language:
"It is true!"
Look for stronger punctuation marks etc.
whereas low modality is sort of... more unsure or at least less pushy about it
"It could be true"


sort of like the difference between a metaphor and a similie: the metaphor is stronger language.

e.g.:

Low modality Medium modality High modality

possibly probably definitely

It goes along with credability.

Something that has a high credability or modality is believable, convincimg realistic

Something of a low modality/ credability is something not so convincing to the audience
