schoolies is what you do when you've finished yr 12, there are 4 weeks of official schoolies but you can go whenever and wherever you like.
Most popular places are gold coast, byron bay,lorne, cruise..theres a few more, and others on this forum can tell you but im from melb so i dont know them all.
You will need to book schoolies fairly soon, by march or so if your serious. it does get booked out quick.

Schoolies = lots of tourism money etc for the gold coast area... and I guess lots of money for the grog and drug sellers

From a school leaver perspective:

The chance to do stupid and crazy stuff... with the excuse of alcohol and drug influence.
