Realistically, they wouldn't really help with the answering of questions, but it is nice when you know what the question is trying to prove as a whole.

Far too many students answer the question in 'parts' in the sense that they just answer part-by-part, but don't actually think about what's going on holistically.

Non-syllabus 'tricks' are cool and useful to know, but explicitly non-syllabus stuff doesn't really help.

I see no real value in learning things outside the syllabus for the HSC. It'll increase your general mathematical knowledge yes, but you shouldn't be using L'Hopital for example when they're expecting you to use the method that's taught.

Too many kids start looking at matrices and hyperbolic trig functions and other things when there is no use for them yet and they don't know all the HSC content.

This doesn't apply for all things outside the syllabus of course, but in a very general sense it's a waste of time now if you're wanting to nail the HSC.

Pappu's theorem can only be used for solids of revolution so it's pretty useless otherwise.
