I didn't sacrifice anything for my hsc. I believe that life is about balance - you can't just focus on studying, you've got to have some fun too. During my hsc year I went to many social events, parties etc, spent time with my friends, family and boyfriend and was able to get a decent UAI which was way above my first preference's cutoff. Now I'm at university, exactly where I want to be - no regrets.
thats a lovely dovely story...balance is good!! in order to remain sane...i should have fun...i will see friends...family (theres no escaping them) and as for boyfriends?? i prefer to remain single throughout the hsc (guys are too much of a distraction) but i will have to refrain from attending big parties, raves, late nights out and etc...a clear head is a good head =]

Please look around next time as there is already a very similar thread to this =] anyways sacrifices? manily i've been reducing my social outings, me 'buming around' with my mates and family particularly on saturday afternoons and my time on msn and the internet. I've also been refraining myself from drinking any sort of alochol.

I agree with this outlook - the HSC is just a course, you can't burn yourself out over it. Rather, you need balance i.e relaxation and socialising to supplement your studies.

I don't think its relationships that are a distraction - after all who wouldn't want someone who was supportive of them during a time of stress? The same logic could be applied to your friends.

As for me, in year 10 and year 11 I put aside my social life and I don't think it was truly worth it - my marks barely changed in year 12 which not only was a much higher workload but was when I started socialising a bit more. I'd also say that having the support of those friends is what prevented me from burning out utterly. I also got my first preference.:)

Re: sacrifices

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to sacrifice my Sunday sleep-ins. Saturdays will be gone due to soccer and so that leaves only Sunday to do work. Plus I'll have to cut down on watching TV programs that I have absolutely no interest in. And procrastinating on the internet. Like now.

It isn't about compromising, it's about prioritising. What is most important to you? You can still do the other things you want once you know you're not behind in your work. And you'll feel less guilty...
don't completely ignore your family and friends though.
