I finished school last year and my UAI was like 47. So obviously I missed out on any course at UNI. Im currently doing ANIMAL STUDIES at TAFE. But im still interested in doing ANIMAL SCIENCE at UWS. Can anyone help me with some information about achieving my goals? Is it possible to do UNITRACK next sesmeter even with my low UAI, or do I have to wait and try and enter UNI as a mature aged student? or is there any other ways of getting in? Some please help! Thanks!

I suggest you call up the university and find out - i'm sure they'll be very flexible especially if u get good tafe grades

Anyone who wants to come to uni frmo tafe - the advice that tends to be given is make sure you do well in yoru tafe course as it will mean you are more likely to be accepted and you are more likely to adjust to uni well.

Call the uni - student call centre nunmber's on the website along with info about these kinds of things - give them a call - they're really helpful, it's student run so you may encounter some poeple who were/know people who were in a simlar position to you and were successful in transferring to the uni.

Or - you can look for the head of program as in the person who is the course coordinator - by looking through the online handbook on the website and send them an email

don't worry too much a bout that! to be a mature age student you just have to be 21+ and there's a fair few 'young mature age' students at uws so you won't be the only one or anything like that

Plus, having done a similar area at TAFE - you're likely to get academic credit so, in effect, you can skip units at uni that you've already done equvalents of so you're most likely to graduate close to when you would have had you gone straight to uni from school

You should get at least some credit for the tafe course you do (as long as it relates to the degree you choose at uni).

You can either finish your course at Tafe and re apply to uni as a 'mature age' student at 21, hoping to get credit for your tafe course...

Or...

You can Take up subjects through 'unitrack' (i think thats the name) where you pay upfront for individual units at uni (that you should pick from the course you want to do, then it gets used for your degree) and I think you have to get an above credit average and you can apply for a degree.

Don't quote me on this, its just a rough idea of what you can do if you don't want to wait till your 21, and the only problem is you have to pay upfront for the units (can be costly but its the same as HECS you just pay it now), I know if you ring the uws hotline they will explain it all further and I'm sure theres a 'pathways' site on www.uws.edu.au that explains alternate paths to uni.

Stick with the Tafe and do Very well. Then you can apply through UAC again to get into your course. With unitrack, some course units require a minimum UAI of 55. But you have to check at the UWS site, im not sure. I think waiting for mature-age entry is a slower option but it depends on how much you want uni. good luck
