on a motherboard
its saying its got like SATA and USB2 and RAID and 1394 and IC7
what are they?
I assume you are looking at my mainboard
IC7 = the product line for Abit (ie Abit
IC7 is the model, abit being the manufacturer/company)
SATA = serial ATA, nice and tidy (fast) compared to standard IDE
RAID = HD array/setup (i've never used it, so it'll be on RAID 0)
1394 = IEEE 1394 = FireWire (mainly used on Apple Mac's, namely Firewire400 and Firewire800. Its just a connection (cable end/plug) type, they're squary and are 'similar' to USB 2
USB 2 = the newer standard (older one was USB 1.1), operates faster than USB1.1 (which was 12Mbps). Again, USB2 is the standard now, but is also backward compatible with USB 1.1 devices (your mouse, printer, digital camera, etc are using USB connections, they're squary as well)
And to fix up Winston's OEM acronym, it's Original Equipment Manufacture
r
As Winston has said, they're your typical PC manufacturers, built to order or pre-packaged (according to standard 'levels' - designed to target key users, ie home students, gamers, office workers, etc)
Examples: IBM, Dell, compaq, HP, Gateway, Sony
And it also refers to original parts/equipment from the PC manufacturer themselves (sold via OEMs - most computer stores sell OEM hardware/software, which usually come without warranty or a limited warranty, no retail packaging and if you're buying hardware, you'll get the bare stuff with a manual -- saves money when you know what you want
)
GeForce FX's i've never used, but i would say that the GF4 is still better than the FX line. (Winston will tell you all about ATi
, but I agree, ATi cards especially the new XT's and radeon Pros are impressive)
