if you can afford it, yea it always helps. tutoring isnt necessary for a 90 though id say as long as you put in work

Tutoring is pretty helpful especially if your teachers aren't great/you lack discipline! I only recommend doing tutoring for subjects you believe you're weak at and can't adequately improve on your own at (I say give it some time in yr11 to test the waters for all the subjects and see how you do before you go into any tutoring, there's really no rush). It can be a lot of money, and only really counts if you're willing to actually pay attention and put in the effort. I think self-study is a lot better, but it's definitely helpful!

For an ATAR of 90 it's not exactly necessary, you can definitely achieve that without tutor with some discipline!

What sort of tutoring is worth it? Is it necessary in order to get a high atar
i wouldn't say its necessary to get a high atar, but it is generally advantageous in any case. even in the best case scenario, a teacher at school has to divide their attention between 30 or so students and simply can't dedicate the same resources and attention an individual tutor can bring. it can also offset the disadvantage brought about by having teachers that perhaps don't have the best of communicative skills.

ultimately, i think tutoring is a privilege that comes with a lot of benefits, and if you can afford it and care more about the academic output than the extraneous time it might expend, it would pay dividends. the reality is that a lot of people simply cannot afford tutoring, and if you are in a position to do so and willing to dedicate the time, i don't see why not.
