Hello SAM creators... if you are reading this...
Where did you get the scaling data? From the Board of Studies??
Is it available to the public (eg me)?

[and don't say you're just plotting points from tablea3.pdf on the UAC website, and then make up a curve somehow]

Yes. All data was obtained from documents produced by the Board of Studies and the Technical Committee on Scaling. Whilst they're all publicly available, they're not all easy to obtain.

That isn't difficult to do... most developers of UAI calculators seem to take that approach. Initially, at least.

But did you guys use ONLY tablea3.pdf? That's a document I found a year ago.. I haven't bothered going to the Board site since.
I believe you have more detailted resources, don't you?

BTW, new looks huh?
What's the name of the forum script (eg vBulletin now) before this change?? I can't remember... (my memory sort of says it's vBulletin too)

No, SAM uses more than just Table A3.

It was also vBulletin, but v2.0. We haven't yet finished customising this version.

Are they available simply on the website or did you have to call the Board, etc etc...??

There are a number of documents... some were online, some were in libraries.

you used marks/UAI data collected from this board right?
Yes, but they were generally used as testing data, not training data.

What is "this board"???

BTW, [to forum managers] nice decision to include replies in the notification email ;)

Hmm okay..
Sarah, you forgot the slash (/) at the closing
hehehe...

can somebody tell me what the curve [hmm.. of UAI vs raw marks I suppose] looks like? im too lazy to gather data and plot points.

UAI vs raw marks ???

what do you mean

if you want my curve for aggregate to UAI you can get the source to JUAIseek off me.

hmm.. I don't really know about the variables that determine UAI. I thought the UAI is determined as a function of raw mark (so for example, raw mark is the x-axis and UAI is the f(x) or y-axis). Can you explain what aggregate is?

Aggregate is the total of the 10 best units scaled marks, ie an aggregate of 467 is the same no matter if they did humanities or science subjects.

hmm... in calculating UAI don't you need to know the scaling factor first? And I believe the way a particular subject is scaled is NOT by multiplication with a constant (the same constant for whatever raw marks in that subject).

You might need to do a little more research before diving into the deep end, mojako.

There are a number of possible approaches.

That's correct; a non-linear transformation is applied.
