I was wondering whether someone could tell me about the purpose of each double degree and where they take you career wise. That is, where does doing Arts/Law take you as opposed to commerce/Law or Science/Law? does the degree you undertake combined with law have a large impact on the job you may get when you are finished? And if you were to do Arts/law, what kind of major should you be looking at? its all REALLY confusing me!!

To start you off, law is clearly the most important aspect of a combined degree if you wish to pursue a career as a lawyer. The other discipline is not so important in terms of gaining employment unless you want to push for a particular area of law, since theoretical/practical experience in a particular field will boost your profile in that area. Personally, I do not believe that having a particular combination (commerce/science/arts) is particularly advantageous over the other in terms of graduate opportunities in law. Commercial law firms do look for 'commercial accumen' but I believe this is different/separate to merely completing a commerce degree.

The usefulness of each option that you have outlined above depends on what you'd like to achieve at the end of it.
Do you mean in terms of obtaining graduate employment in a law firm? It's certainly best to undertake a local LLB first and trying out other options when you at first do not succeed.
Generally, LLMs are useful when you pursue further study whilst in the profession - they're usually specialised to a particular area of practice. Otherwise, it's more of an academic pursuit.
As for external LLBs, they're naturally useful when you're considering practicing in a non-Australian jurisdiction. It possibly may reduce your chances of employment in a local law firm as this may indicate that you're not planning in Australia for long - i.e. you will be questioned about this.
Also keep in mind that 'options' involve substantial time, money and effort.
