And why not the others? Do you have a reason, or are you just ignorant?

Sorry Densuki that post was directed at sikeveo. I don't hold anything against you for ranking your preferences honestly.

Though I do wonder, why are you going for medical science? Do you want a career in medical research or something?

sorry i didnt rank them of preference, i understand the uni doesnt matter its what they offer and if i like it or not. i just listed them down in according the uai needed, it was on my paper so yea, i havent been able to do research on these courses, but i will soon,
and yes, i would like to work in hospitals i guess majoring in immunology or pathology. ive always liked working with ppl and helping ppl. and since im highly interested in health, i couldnt go pass med sci.

Get over it. . I have nothing against UTS, but i know nothing about it. As goes with UWS.

I know a reasonable amount about unsw/usyd med sci and gave my opinion based on what i know. No need to call me ignorant.

Densuki : Just remember to be a pathologist, im pretty sure u need to be a dr. I.e. do a mbbs degree.

ummm if u major in pathology or immunology
ull prolly not be dealing with full or live ppl..

they tend to be lab work careers.. as a research assistant and just doing cell cultures and if u do a PhD u can do more interesting work.

ull work in Science labs (e.g. CSIRO), Hospital research or University research labs..

sikeveo: technically he can..(ignorant: unaware because of a lack of relevant information or knowledge) u never stated u had no idea about UTS or UWS MedSc courses as it implies u had a clue that they were inferior in some way.. i dunno about any of these courses.. and i kno i dun ..but i applied for Usyd assuming the higher calibre of students would be more challenging... but thats ignorance for u :)

BMedSc =3-4 yrs depending on honours..

MBBS= 4 yrs

Post grad training =2 yrs minimum *paid from here* (intern + residents)

Professional Degree (Fellowships) = 5-6 yrs *very good pay after here*

then ure a immunology specialist or a pathologist..

Professional Degree are offered through RCPA (www.rcpa.edu.au) and RACP (www.racp.edu.au)... but u dun need to worry about tat for 10 yrs :)

OK.. im talkin about the BMedSc (immunology/pathology) and under 40-50% end up in research too.. there are stats for Usyd MedSc about this... positions u can get a normally research/lab assistant..
little to no outside lab contact.. without the medical degree u won't deal with many patients.. i recommend u speak to user Survivor39

if u get a BMedSc(Hons) u can head to a PhD if u do well then u do research in a lab.. and publish ure work..

If u do BMedSc + MBBS (medical degree) = doctor in hospital.. (unless ure a pathologist.. then after ur resident yrs then ure in a lab again doing microscopy or autopsies)

Pathologist = make diagnosis/causes of disease.. usually via lab/microscopy techniques... patients are usually dead or tissue samples..VERY sciency

Immunology Physician = patient contact.. apply multi system clinical skills (lik u examine lots of body systems to figure the diagnosis)..treat patients as a specialist/consultant

wow, doesnt that take very long then? cuz i thought it was
Medsci for about 4years, then post grad med wouldnt take the full 5-6 years
eg. uve lerant some stuff in medsci that u dont need to repeat?
mayb i got it wrong..
so what ur saying is
i have to do Medsci+Mbbs = 4years+6 years = 10 long dam years at uni?
tell me if im wrong..

and about pathology, yea i just did some reseach, i think i misunderstood the course, its not what i want..immunology is what i wanted

yeah for mine... its 5-6 yrs.. where u get in after yr 12...

but if u go the BMedSc + MBBS (grad entry) it will only take about 7-8 yrs assuming u get in after BMedSc.. and u score well on the GAMSAT

im saying u dun need to worry about hte colleges of specialty till uve done ure postgrad training yrs lolz..

dam thats a low %
ic now so it would take me about 7-8 years to become qaulified
are there any years where all u do is clinical work?
eg. in some degrees that go for 4 years, ug ota spend the 5th year doing work exp.
is that the case for Mbbs?
thanks

its ok dw :p

I worked it out using the distribution curve for gamsat marks, and then using the percentage of how many ppl get the interview and then how many get the offer.

Hmm i didnt factor in gpa for ppl who dun meet the cut off like at usyd/flinders (i think).

In the final year u go to the hospital i.e. al clinical. Post grad mbbs is 4yrs or 4.5 if u go uwa/uni melb.
