Hey everyone,

I'm trying to decide on my double major. I'm definitely doing a BCom, so that's sorted.

I'm trying to decide between the following:

Finance and Marketing
Economics and Marketing
Economics and International Business
Finance and International Business
Marketing and International Business
Finance and Economics

Out of those, which do you think are the best? I'm interested in all of it - so that's not really an issue. But I want to keep my options open for a few different careers after uni. I want to work in Marketing/Advertising or Finance (Banking/Investments) with a possible option of working in some sort of public policy stuff (although that's just a faraway idea, not sure if I'd actually do it tbh). I also definitely want to work overseas at some point in an international setting. I'm not sure what would give me the best options and flexibility.

So, what is the best thing to study at uni out of those? Thanks!!

Finance/Marketing or Economics/marketing to get the widest range of jobs and keeping options open. International business is just a throwaway major tbh it doesn't really increase your employment in a multi-national company,cause you gain no specific skill that they want from it, they'll be hiring you for your other major which is a a lot more employable. Your biggest option to work overseas will be transfer from your office to another country or going on a stint/secondment at another office for a period of time.(that being said if you gain enough experience you can apply overseas directly if your skills are in demand).

They compliment each other but they dont necessarily need to stick together, finance as a stand alone major is still employable,finance and accounting is just a popular option (because of complimenting). And yes, both accounting and finance involve maths although finance at quite a higher level.

Finance/Marketing is a great option given your interest - Finance/Economics might be a bit too narrow for you. International business, as the person above mentioned, is a fluff major - not recommended. Friend of mine in the year above did Finanace/Marketing @ unsw, interned at loreal etc now going for big 4 acct firms. So you're options are very wide.

thank you everyone! I think I'll do Finance/Marketing, although there's still a small chance I'll go with Econ/Marketing.

Finance and Economics.

Rest = waste of time.

If you need to learn how to market by studying marketing, you're in big trouble.
