are there any negative social pressures on the poorer kids ?

like.....

you: "Ooo my dad just bought me a BMW for christmas, what did you get ?"

me :"i got a pair of school shoes"

you: ".............i really gotta go, bye"

as ridiculous as that ^ sounded, its probably the basis of the anti-private school thing

lol yea, lets plunge into this black hole

well yes, there are a lot of things like that. in fact, we stick cash onto our uniforms so we can walk around sydney thinking we're better than everyone else. everyone got a BMW from daddy for christmas and collectively, we have enough power on the stock market to bankrupt a lot of companies.

true story.

edit: hmm, i'm being sarcastic kids.
but yea, no, i haven't really been exposed to any excessive snobbiness because of the whole private school thing. i know plenty of public school students who are snobby.. it's not really a fair judgement to say that because someone go to a private school they're snobby or because someone go to a public school they're not.
i did find going to a private high school from a public primary school quite a big transition though, not because i was exposed to snobbery but rather, generally better manners. a lot of the times, 'snobbiness' is really just confidence that gets a bit intimidating. i guess a larger percentage of students come from protective families and are quite sheltered? maybe.
(these are just my opinions, don't quote me out of context and then beat me up with your sporks  )

i could have just as easily gone to a selective school (i got into sydney girls)... i don't see how stepping into a private school immediate makes me a snob, whereas the same person could have gone to a public school and be labelled something different.

and also, i didn't want to say this before but wtf is a 'real' rich kid? people just believe whatever crap they can think of

private school people are just rich kids whose parents want them to meet snobby kids and become social becoz at school they were the losers of the grade.... . the real rich kids that know how to be social go to the good public schools such as st ives and nth sydney girls and boys!

thats absolute crap about the kids being loosers of the grade and thats why their parents send them to private schools...
its just shit.. because its so not true!

thats like saying oh public school ppl are povo and loosers and they have no choice but to go to a derrolick public school and thats why their parents send them there cos their scum..

i can saftly say riverview is the worst private school around. It is the reason why private schools get labelled snobby and up themselves. I know people from riverview who are all so ego-centric.
