hey guys,
Im going to major in accounting /finance and have completed

micro,macro,fins1612,fins1613, acct 1 a , acct 1b, qma , qmb.

what should i pick for sem 2? i currently picked acct2522( 2a) , fins 2624, fins 2622, legt1710.

I'm unsure about emerging capital markets and legt 1710 ( I'm meant to do 1711 but its not offered ). Should i just do 2A, 1 fins, and 2 gen eds? help appreciated thx

It's possible to do 2624 and also 3616 at the same time. You'll eventually have to do 3616 anyway as part of your finance major. However, whether you feel that this is too much in terms of workload is up to you. If you're okay with it, then acct2522, fins2624 and 3616 and a gen ed would be good i think. This is because you can balance your workload more with 1 gen ed instead of having a very relaxed semester with 2 gen eds and then later on having a hectic semester with 4 intense subjects.

Btw, apparently LEGT1710 is the replacement for LEGT1711, people have been saying. Anyone able to confirm this?

The handbook says 2624 is a prereq of 3616 (therefore you cannot complete both at the same time).

UNSW Handbook Course - International Business Finance - FINS3616

2624 wasn't a prereq when I did it and it still isn't now.

My advice is to try doing FINS2624 with a WAM booster subject (like BFM UNSW Handbook Course - Bank Financial Management - FINS3630 ) - it's not an overly difficult course but really badly taught, so if you want to get a D/HD you'll need to put in a lot of overtime.

Yeah, you can take 2624 with 3616 as it can be treated as a corequisite, or a prerequisite, some do both at once just to get their cores out of the way, so it's up to you

I don't know which area of finance you're intending on heading into, but personally for me, i don't see 2622 helping at all if you're hoping of getting into trading, funds management or brokerage.

thanks for that; i'll probably try get into 3616..question is which gen ed though i guess..bit late to re enrol so most courses taken. I rang UNSW and they confiremd that legt1710 was replacing 1711 + another course , so yup all good for those that wanted to know.

leoyh , if you don't mind what did you do/are going to do?

I've done 1612 already but havent done 1613 yet so ill be doing that for this semester. After that, i will do 2624 and probably 3616 to round out the cores.

For the electives i'm not sure what the course codes are but the names are applied corporate finance, security analysis and valuation, options futures and risk management and i'm undecided on the last one but it'll probably be investment management modelling.

I'm picking these because it is what interests me and will lead me in the right direction for the future career in finance that i want. Not sure if this is what you're after either, but there is a wide variety of electives, all of which have their benefits depending on where you want to go.
