They need a lot more than 4-5 polling points to win imo

not to mention the political fallout of another leadership change would cause more damage than any positive effect rudd could bring to the party
A change to anyone else would have a fallout, a change to Rudd would be a perceived "righting of a wrong" and there is definitely no point them trying to argue that dumping Rudd was not a wrong, the electoral consensus is entrenched on that one.

And a five point contraction would just about make it a deadheat.

I would like to see Labor climb the polls just enough to get Abbott turfed out.

It's the opposite for me (live in GWS and everything Gillard does is horrible, apparently).
I'm western Sydney too and I'd make the observation that westies have been vitriolic about every Prime Minister in memory except for about 15 months of Rudd at the start. It is such a feted electorate voters out here will just keep screaming until a major party throws some money at them.

Andrew Bolt should run as a Liberal and try to get a seat. He could be groomed as a future frontbencher.

Rudd's return a form of absolution for the petty polling public who's fickleness was the excuse needed to bury the knife.

They do now. Apparently he travelled quite well in Penrith but Blacktown, Liverpool, Fairfield, Parramatta(the city not the whole electorate) Bankstown etc were all strongly Labor for the duration of Howard's tenure. But Penrith doesn't count towards the whole "western Sydney battlers" narrative as their median household income is way above the national average.

It's not about "justice'' it's about not being scene as some puppet for the trade union movement. People who think Labor's problems are about the carbon tax and BER are ignoring that Labor hasn't won more than 40% of the primary vote since 1993 except under Rudd. When Labor won the 2007 election it did so by redefining its agenda around the values and beliefs of a relatable personality: Rudd’s.

This is because there is no longer any great role for government to act as a sympathetic mediator between organised labour and business nor has there been since the latter days of Hawke’s premiership. Labor cannot continue to act as the political wing of the unions, whatever their role in twenty first century politics it is insufficient to form the bedrock of a modern party of government. The political success of Gillard’s leadership has always depended on her ability overwhelm the traditional Labor agenda with one of her own design which clearly she has not done. In fact upon taking the leadership, Gillard went one worse by adopting part of Tony Abbott’s agenda, acceding to the demands of the mining companies protesting the Resource Super Profits Tax, attempting to reintroduce offshore processing and Temporary Protection Visas and finally by swearing herself opposed to climate action. Both Crean and Shorten would have similar problems, relics from a different political paradigm where the Labor movement was entrusted with the protecting workers from a serious threat of oppression.

Rudd has such appeal because he is an antithesis to the old political paradigm. Like Turnbull he cast himself above the push and shove of old politics, to the chagrin of his colleagues who were still entrenched in it but to the adoration of the voting public.

technically yeah but come on have we no skills of deduction?
fair point I forgot (sic) existed

anyway, I would genuinely love to see a party with members that have absolutely no experience in governance just to see how well they do

It shouldn't be shut down, there should be more restrictions placed on it though (i.e. NT intervention rolled out across the country to start with).

Rudd seems like a good idea when he isn't the leader of the party, but what everyone forgets his dismal inability to deliver on policy which led to his eventual downfall in the first place. Gillard won't be able to bear the onslaught of angry voters looking for stability from government, I think most people just want a stable government up and running instead of leadership challenges and defections to various wings of the party dominating the news every night

On that basis i would say the most likey winner of the next election would be the Liberal Party.

I must confess though that I am a fairly right wing in my views.
