Hi all.

Trying to write an essay on Orlando and am trying to work out which philospher/person wrote extensively about male and females being biologically constrained to particular roles, eg 'hunting' and 'gathering'. I am certain someone has it some stage, but need to be sure.

Does anyone know?

Thanks

im not sure who wrote about the stuff afforementioned, but could probably help out with theorists who had similar ideas.

- Use Lyotard
Talked extensively about "metanarratives" - as in immutable truths, all that kind of stuff. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in reference to Orlando, as the film attempts to outlaw gender as purely a social construct

if you're looking for examples, talk about how through the use of irony "same person, no difference at all just a different sex" (irony occurring where orlando IS treated differently, seen in the literary gathering of the poets scene) makes noticeable the ways in which society at this time adhered to different "rules" in the treatment of men and women in social behaviour during the 17th / 18th centuries.

i hope all of that makes sense, you may have known all of the above already. just thought some extra info might help.
if you have any more questions about this or anything else on pomo ( i did FLW, Orlando, Possession, and studied Flauberet's Parrot, Arcadia and Politically Correct Bedtime Stories as supps) then feel free to PM me
