are you trasnferring into the general b. commerce.. or one of the specialised degrees (b. comm- mktg, b. comm- acst, b. comm- accg)?

the general b. commerce degree obviously has greater flexibility in what units you want to do, than the specialised ones.

basically you pick major and follow the designated program....

Hmm, do the core units, and use the other units you've already done to fill up the electives. Check out the handbook for whatever type of Commerce you've transferred to.

I'm transferring to the General B-Com!

Am I suppose to pick a program, according to what I want to major in and then just follow it?

I cannot change my major later, can I? Because the handbook doesnt' say much about the general degree B-Com so im a bit lost!!

does this link list all my majors? If i were to major in accg...how would i go on about picking my subjects?

ALso, how does majoring in Accg doing Bcom differ from doing the specific B-com-accg degree? iS there alot of differences...

thank u guys! :)

yeah that site lists all the possible programs under the b.commerce....

i would think that if you decide to change your program later on, it would be as easy as changing your units, because you are not so restricted as in the specialised degrees...

from what i've been told, there are no difference between the general b. commerce degree and the specialised degrees except that the specialised degrees have more core units.

as for accounting, i'm not sure you can qualify for professional recognition under the general b. commerce degree....

if u major in Accg, you will have to put B Com in Accounting and Finance, rather than Bcom. In the end you get the BCom degree, but you put down B Com in Accounting and Finance on the form cuz it has a different course code... confusing but yeh... i was on the phone with the person from SES for aaaagggeess today.

oh yeh and
http://handbook.mq.edu.au/programofstudy.php?code=ACC01
how do u pick my units?

you start off with 300 level units and work your way backwards doing those previous level units that must be done in order to satisfy the 300 level pre- requisites...

you get me??

ok take BUSL320: Revenue Law... the pre- req's of that are BUSL301 OR LAW406.

then you look at the pre- requisites, pre-requisites.. LOL...
BUSL301: Corporations Law... the pre- req's are BUSL250 OR LAW421...

and so and so...

Well, imo, you have a fair amount of freedom at the 100 level (even 200 level). So choose units which will allow you to do the 300 level units which are required.

For example to do ACCG350, you would've need to have done ( ACCG253 ), which to do, you would've need to have done ( ACCG100 or ACCG105; ECON111 or BBA103; STAT170 or STAT171; ACST101 ). Of course, some of the preqrequisites overlap.

cuz they have different course codes
http://handbook.mq.edu.au/uacpref.php?pref=300245
http://handbook.mq.edu.au/uacpref.php?pref=300210

for the first one (300245) it is B Commerce in Accounting and Finance. The degree is B Com, but it's in the division of Accounting and Finance (that's what the guy from the SES told me), but with that you can choose the accounting major.
And:

Also, for something like accg105, which you would need to do (i think and im pretty sure) for the accounting major, you need B Commerce in Accounting and Finance as a prerequisite.
http://handbook.mq.edu.au/unit.php?vid=19714

this is everything that i 'worked out'. dunno if i'm right.. i hope i am =/
the handbook is doesn't explain any of this, so it's really confusing
and then.. i could be just completely rocking myself lol

the b. commerce in accounting and finance is a single degree. it has 2 majors, of which are accounting and finance, obviously...

i'm not entirely sure, but i don't think the b. commerce in accounting and finance allows for professional recognition with the CA or CPA. if you want professional recognition i'd say do the b. commerce- accounting degree.... but as i said, i'm not entirely sure so you should ask someone at the student centre to double check.

Thats the stream i'm planning to do aftr i transfer. Demography is the study of populations & their characteristics or something lyk that. I'm only choosing mktg+dem cos i'm not too keen on the mktg+org.behaviour stream. I'm doin DEM127 this semester so i'll see how it goes...

Hey so u ppl transferring to the generic B.Com did u fill in the "List modules or unit groups forr BBA, BSocSc"? Does this only apply to these 2 courses or BCom as well?

Ok cool, so i just get these lecture slides from the Coop shop on campus or 2nd hand? I'm assuming u've done dem127 , so u wouldnt happen to still have ur old lecture slides? :)

So u wouldnt recommend me buying:
- Transformation Of Australia's Population 1970 - 2030 ~ $49.95
- Demographic Methods And Concepts ~ $85
On the site its status is 'recommended' :p

Also do u have ne tips/advice for dem127?

Ta :D

I called up SES today and I found out that if u do B-com and then major into accg, u wont b recoginised as CPA! So thas bad..
u have to be doing b-com-accg to b recognised!

I'm so confused, which one to do! coz if i do find out that I suck at accg, I dont want to be stuck into bcom-accg..so thas why im thinking i should do the generic b-com degree.

mktg&demography sounded interesting..however, I dont know how mktg will get later....i wasnt good at mktg101 so im scared. lol

well my advice would be to you is to do the b. commerce- accounting degree for now because you can always trasnfer again to the general degree...
