And if you only studied the topics you learnt in school then you would still have a pretty narrow view of history. I think it really comes down to having an interest in the world and the reasons why it is the way it is, and then bothering to do your own learning through history books.
Well, yeah, that's sort of the point I was trying to make in my own, long, way

The question was on a CSSA Chemistry Trial. It asked students to assess the impact of the discovery of the Haber process on society in the early 1900's. There is a syllabus dot point specifically on this issue.

For the non-Chemists, the Haber process was developed by a German scientist in 1908, and together with Bosch (another German), was scaled up for industrial production by 1914. It is a process for making ammonia, which is used to make fertiliser and explosives. It would have been more difficult for the Germans to wage WW1 without it, and so it is virtually impossible to make a decent attempt at this question without a mention of WW1.

And: Yes, the teacher should have discussed this (and probably did), but in any event this student had a serious lack of general knowledge, IMO.

i do chem. and i still don't know what the Haber process is!!!!
so i guess i shouldn't be laughing then!!!

In reply to Sarah's reply bout my spelling.............that makes a point dosen't it, i mean I haven't written essays on them and so forth........it's just general knowledge, I mean don't you people care how war's started, don't you guys fail all your english exams where you have to relate to context etc, not saying that everyone is oblivious to major political events in history.
And as for people who say they don't care..........well if everyone took that attitude then the world would be a pretty crap place :)

It's at the start of the Chemical Monitoring and Management module - if you haven't started that, then don't worry. If you have, find out about it. It's a near certain 5 - 6 mark question, and I would be stunned if it failed to appear on at least one of your trials and the actual HSC.

go through the dot points and make sure you've covered all of them, even if your teacher hasn't the texts cover basically all of them anyway so you will be fine

just miffed that ppl who haven't heard of Stalin or Mussolini are now constituted as 'dumb asses'. reeks of arrogance. but hehe true, i am pro 'arse' not 'ass' :)

The simple solution is to use some of the methods Hitler and Stalin used against these ignorant pigs ;)

It's not like they'll know what's happening because they're so ignorant and once it's started they'll be both powerless and ignorant of the legal processes that led to their extermination and the legal processes they could undertake to stop it! It's win-win!

That comment is so typical of you Ziff.
P.S Maloney is boring
P.P.S I threw a few items at Madeline today in Modern. It was fun.

IMHO A certain general knowledge of history is required, to broaden the mind, encourage thought blah blah, as well as knowing about the mistakes and miracles brought about by bloody humankind.

Sure is. Wow. We're watching videos.

I will not be at school on Wednesday and Friday - I will do MH, Legal Studies and EE2 stuff. Doing nothing at school or doing a healthy amount of work... yep!

In amongst wasting time, bludging, sleeping, socialising, and not doing anything, who has time for schoolwork?

And that's just what I do at school....
