Seriously why do you care? You people never post in this forum about the thousands of people locked wrongfully. I don't hear you crying about the injustices that people face ever day.

Think about it and tell me why you really care about Corby, when you have shown little interest in others.

like the child refugees (we're talking kids that are like, eight) that we lock up straight away, for years in fact, even when they suffer from extreme depression, attempt various suicides and self-mutilation, and suffer from obvious mental problems, yet no one seems to bitch about them here.

This has already been addressed (in part), comrade. You may have to read through each of the other threads in their entirety to see what some have had to say, though.

Edit: This is what I had to say in another thread. Please keep in mind that I was only trying to 'justify' the idea that she may be innocent.

Bloody hell, some people just think/hope that she is actually innocent, and in all likelihood it's because they expect better of Australians (no matter the fact that we are rather ordinary) and because the idea that the drugs may have been planted creates a rather pervasive sense of fear amongst those who are overly paranoid.

Asqy, you're probably right to a certain extent. Keep in mind as well that the media certainly is a definite factor in this. It's very selective, biased, sensationalise and report just about anything (with 'perfect' background music, might I add) that stimulates people's emotions to Corby (eg. A Current Affair last night - Ray Martin said, "imagine being locked in that prison for 20 years... Imagine...").

But yes, this overreaction is so excessive, up to the point where the issue of masked racism can be raised.

People care about certain types of injustice.

they dont care about refugees. Why? I assume it is because they are not white. They may not be overtly racist however it is inbuilt in that the majority of the white population does not identify with the sitution of the people in dentention. Unless they are white.

For example australia didnt care about detention centers until we managed to lock up a white Australia.

I certainly do not see Australia getting really upset about the deportation of an Australia women - who happens not to be white (...and therefore by inference not 'Australian')

Corby is White. the majority identitfy with her. I think this is the major reason why people care.

People think they are like her. they indentify with her.
Besides that you also have the fact that the media has been playing the "Corby is innocent" card, whereas the asylum seekers have been labelled illegal immigrants, and people tend to have little sympathy for criminals (as the name has made them out to be).

EDIT: Even with Cornelia Rau I doubt many people were greatly perturbed, or at least not as much as they are at present with Corby.

I couldn't care less about a strangers misfortune (not that I'm implying that she is innocent, she's guilty). But some people have morals and are easily influenced by the media....go figure.

I wonder if these people really do care, or is this just another reality show for them.

Like darren Hinch said, "it is because she is white, attractive and volumptuous"

The majority of people do think she is innocent because of reasons stated above, but what i dont understand is when someone disagrees on this topic and thinks she is innocent, other ppl attack that person and they are treated unfairly.

This is a very tricky issue and it is definitely not black and white.

I thought the sentence would be either the death penaly or she is set free. (how can there be anything else)

I dunno, anyway, a lot of stories have emerged saying this and that.

I predict that she will appeal the sentence of 20 years and be found innocent and set free.

Shapelle Corby: not jewish, not muslim, not hindu, not asian, not arab, not aboriginal, female, not mentally disabled, not physically disabled, not gay, not a drug taker, doesnt have aids, enjoys sport, not socialist, not communist, not terrorist, not a priest, not old, not politically minded, not a slut, not a racist, not a middle aged male scam-artist ripping off single mothers living in a social welfare dependent suburb, not a banker, uncompromising, strong, determined, victimised, underdog, not costing YOU 12c a litre extra at the petrol station, not a wife-beater, not fat, not a 4WD owner, not single-handedly putting up interest rates and oh yes, perfect in every way - "the all-Australian girl". :)

^ You're making some girls jealous.... :p

Anyway, I don't think it's wrong for people to care about Corby. But there's something wrong with people caring so much about her yet not giving as much attention (and reaction) about other people in need of compassion. From all this Corby affair, it's the overreaction of the public that really ticks me off.

Actually, that is disputed.

I've seen so many articles (almost none of which are English) which mention her job as a "hostess" (e.g. prostitute, call girl, escort) in Japan.

Many Australians say "she married in Japan", but they forget to mention that he was a customer.
