Because everyone who gets good marks in this trivial subject are absolutely morons at math, struggling to get even a 60% in Math Advanced (at my school). Therefore this doesn't prove intelligence. Just for perspective, they only award 2 points for band 6 in physics or chemistry. Quite unfair that someone who got a band 6 in a worthless subject can get a higher selection rank than you if you did good on the harder subject - physics or chem. Funfact: A Levels, which is the UK equivalent of HSC doesn't require you to do english, even though those people founded the english language.
Also why does USYD even award you for band 3 or 4 in advanced math? You have to be mentally disturbed to get that low.
Funny how Macquarie Uni awards you adjustment factors for extension 2 english but not extension 2 math for Actuarial Studies, a subject that requires math, not the latter. Who are these admissions people, clearly they have never touched math other than basic addition and multiplication in their life.
