it should be more relavant to real life....
ie.. who cares about how electrons orbits the nucleus... what we need to know is how plane goes up to the sky...

In my opinion, the concepts are sorta easy-ish to understand. Calculations are the hard bits, because you never know if you're right in the exam. However, with the more theoretical questions, you know that whether or not you got it right. And when I meant calculations, I don't mean, memorising the formula.

But then again, what would I know? We've only had an exam on Moving About and The World Communicates.

i'm sorta in the same position in that i haven't even finished the preliminary course yet, BUT i'm finding most of the calculations easy - i'm finding some of the concepts really hard to grasp...i'm not quite sure what exactly is so hard about learning the theory but i guess its harder to understand when you can't see things as easily

I don't really think it is hard. Most of the theory is simple, as are most of the calculations and formulas. Sure theres a few dicey parts (I still haven't got how to use Lenz's law to predict current direcion flow), but for the msot part, it is not easy, but not hard either if you knwo what I mean.

well, physics is not really hard. the throey is easy when u understand it. to understand is to know and ur techers know and can help. physics is okay, chem sucks balls!

Physics isnt hard, you just need to keep studying the hard concepts until something click and it makes perfect sense.

(tl;dr the stuff u learn is actually interesting)

I know what did my head in the most was Special Relativity. At first I was like "ok sure whatever", but after a while it began to make sense... which then enabled me to responsd to all those tedious extended reponse questions and calculations as well as making me raise more questions that are beyond the scope of the syllabus

What i find hard about physics thou is A. physics teachers who are new to the course cant teach and B. teachers experienced in physics will avoid teaching HSC physics like the plague.... at my school, we have 3 ex-engineers in the maths department who refuse to teach Physics, so a year 7-10 science teacher specialising in Biology took the role of teaching us.

Well you know if I wanted to be a fully qualified Physics teacher I have to linger around uni for 3 (Science) + 2 (Education) years.
Depending on the course program of the university in question, sure we will study Thermal Physics, Quantum Physics, Electromagneticsm and so on but all the calculus and linear algebra won't be necessary in HSC Physics and the pay is only around $50,000-$60,000 per year.
Then I'd rather be a physicist than an actual teacher with all that tertiary level maths gone to waste.

I'm sure those 3 ex-engineers would like to teach maths because it's what engineering revolves around and makes better use of what they know and HSC physics is simply a joke.
So ask them lolwhy don't they teach physics?
I wouldn't mind teaching physics.

I found chem pretty cool in the HSC and even now.
1st week chemistry involves atomic numbers, mass numbers and moles, woohoo!

EDIT:
You don't need to remember formulas, real physics isn't about remembering formulas.
You will need to start developing efficent problem solving skills now.

It's not hard, it's actually exceptionally boring now that we're through I2I and starting Q2Q, which are even more history-based than the previous two topics.

I don't think physics per se is difficult. I enjoy it HOWEVER the exams at my school don't appear to be compatible with me... I don't actually have ranks at the moment etc to give an indication of my performance.

The theory isn't difficult, it's effectively logical.

So based on the three topics covered at school in Prelim, I'm going to say that it's the WORDING and PHRASING of your answers and responses in exams that makes it difficult.

Teachers are extremely pedantic about the construction of your answers, incorporating certain points which somewhat deviate from the explicit answer of the question. You never know what to expect.

<o:shapelayout v:ext="edit"></o:shapelayout>Physics describes the world using difficult concepts and models the way that it works mathematically.
Thus, we need to have a handle on both the concepts and mathematics.
Often, the mathematics is assumed or not taught and students just have to pick it up as they go along.

The calculations and concepts in Physics are not hard at all. But what I think is hard is the little things like units, directions, etc.

Physics isn't hard. You just need to understand the concepts. As long as you understand the concepts you can apply them to anything and you can go on writing forever. If anyone needs help with yr 12 physics or biology i'll be happy to help for a small fee of $10 per hour. Please send me a message if you would like mor information.
