Hi there,

Quick question, say my cohort does poorly in the externals and I get 90 + (me being the top mark) Will my HSC mark get dragged down when it is moderated by BOS with other schools?

I think it's if you're more than 3 standard deviations away from the average in the exam you don't get dragged down because you're just a good student. Same if you're lower than 3 standard deviations away from the average, you're not just gonna be pulled up so everyone can be dragged down. They keep their mark coz they're just not good otherwise it wouldn't be fair

If he's rank 1 in everything for his school rank, if he gets beaten in the HSC then it will only be good for him.

I'm rank 1 in 3 subjects, the others I'm above average and 1 is below.

Yes, if he/she's cohort performs crappy in externals.

Well if the ones he's not first in, he's only average or below, then noone is really 'dragging him down' he's just getting a mark which is a reflection of his ability...
