take into account the people you know(if you do know any) who get rejected/accepted by EAS (Educational Access Scheme) and their reasons.

I apply for EAS, saying that my right ear is almost deaf with medical forms to prove it; now if you were the EAS would you let me in?

it doesnt hurt to apply..depends on the uni i guess..i think UTS has higher requirements whereas UNSW let alotta ppl in thru EAS...so they would probably be ok..

yeah, this girl in my year made up this full sob story to the year advisor about how her dad beats her up etc (complete crap), our year advisor believed her and wrote a letter for her.... and she got it. :chainsaw:

I reckon I could get EAS if I wanted to but if I get in without applying for it than I can consider myself better than everyone else (both the EAS people and the non-EAS people) once again proving that I am the superior race.

one of the major reasons why i didn't go for EAS was because i thought hmmm using this EAS could easily get me into what ever course i wanted to do.....but if i can't get the uai for the course which means i don't have the ability to do it in the first place so why bother with EAS....

and yes i know uai is not a thing to determine the difficulty of a given course....bah bah but i'm talking about a course with an extremely high dropout rate

with bullshitting EAS (i dunno if it was EAS, im presuming it was), one girl in my year had her brother die in really traumatic circumstances and there was all this shit going on (and continues to) and she had to get a letter from our yr advisor, principal, the police and the coroner so she could qualify. IMO she deserved it.
one the other hand, another girl in my yr went out every night during the HSC, getting so drunk she was phyiscally sick, didnt turn up to half the exams (only came to the ones she perceived as 'easy') and got out of doing the others coz she had a doctors certificate saying she was 'stressed'
its friggin bullshit.

Sydney uni requires you to have 2 reasons to get eas, eg - you are poor and deaf, or your dad beat u up and your schooling was disrupted. I think its to weed out the bullshitters.
If you can apply though, do, you'll regret it if you miss out on your course by only a tiny margin later on.

I hate people who try and cop out from it all with dodgy cerificates and the like. I think the reason I hold that opinion is that I had to have 5 wires inserted into my hand holding it together 2 weeks before my HSC and I had to go through so much nonsense in proving it... I even had to provide previous assessments so they could determine if I actually broke the hand I wrote with, had to see an independant specialist so he could verify I had an assortment of metal inserted in my hand and then have letters from the principal and year advisor saying that I would not injure myself on purpose for gain. And even then, I only recieved my subject assessment result as my exam result and was made to compete with everyone else, while people make complete crap up and walk in.

It's a 'case by case' system which means that it will always be inconsistant, and thats a pity because people are leeching off something provided for people with real disabilities and disadvantages.

tech knockout you don't just have to prove you have the disability, but you have to prove it has affected you adversly, ie, get teachers/prinicple to write a statement saying you have trouble hearing & therefore concentrating and keeping up in class, it is difficult for you to participate in class discussions because the background noise makes it difficult to hear ppl talking ect. ect. ect.

I'm not sure if they would accept it because they generally only accept people with two eas categories (or one reaaallly bad one) as someone said. Also, you cannot claim EAS for lost study time (ie if you broke your leg a week before the exams, but was still able to show up) so you would have to prove that your ear probs had led to a real learning disability...

I got in on EAS for financial harship & excessive family responsibilities saying it affected me through worry about finances, not being able to buy textbooks and not being able to study as hard because I had to work all the time (note: this is different to lost study time as I mentioned above because it was all through yr 11 & 12, not just before exams or whatever)

moral to this post: how it has affected you is more important to them than the disadvantage/disability (which is why they tend to let ppl in on bullshit stuff like they are stressed or thier father beats them up)

That is incorrect, same with the person who claimed that u need two grounds to get into usyd. Only one category is required if u can sufficiently prove it!

Depends on the severity for usyd, again its a case by case thing, because a lot of ppl get EAS from UAC just for going to a school in western syd or a so called "disadvantaged" schools, if usyd accepted them all they would take up all the uni places. its situations like this that Usyd requires you to have 2 grounds for, which is fair enough i think.

Are you?

You will need documents from your audiologist and GP.

Got me another 4 bonus points I believe. You may get 2-4 if you are hearing impaired/deaf.

they allocate only 5% of EAS stud. to enter uni. Which is realli fair.

well, i could have applied for EAS last year, but I didn't make up any bullshit excuse. I missed out on my 1st preference by 0.8, and if i'd made up an excuse, chances are, i could have gotten in. i know someone who got a uai less than me who did get into my desired course cos of EAS, and the excuse didn't sound that flash either.

at first i was disheartened, wishing i'd bullshitted something, but then i accepted the fact that i wouldn't have felt like i'd earned it anyway.
